Enjoyed a 2 night stay here. Nice welcome when checking in and everything explained very clearly. Room was very clean and of ample size and very quiet, only negative was the shower was lacking in pressure. Breakfast was freshly cooked and there was ample of everything, hot and cold, and the staff were exceptionally nice. Would stay here again if visiting Skye no problem

Absolutely loved the place. Clean, cosy rooms with comfortable beds and excellent showers for warming up after the cold!! Breakfast set us up beautifully for our day of exploring! The welcome and care we received from all of the staff was second to none, even down to recommendations for our journey home to avoid risks on certain roads. Superb!

Take a lovely trip up to the "Old Man of Storr, the Grave of the Brave Flora MacDonald, the beautiful Brothers point and then of course the majestic Fairy Pools before returning for a shower and rest. Finish up your evening with a lovely meal and some drink at the cosy "Isles Bar".

So much to see on Skye we weren’t able to get to everything we wanted. What we did see was utterly amazing. Be prepared for wind and rain though we managed to avoid both. Driving can be nerve racking but just make sure you know the rules and you’ll be fine!

This gem of a hotel is owned and run by a very hard working family. It is in the perfect position to explore Portree. Best of all is their dedication to customer service. I asked Stephen about dining options on Saturday night he willingly offered to ring around explaining there was only a 50 50 chance. 10minutes later he knocked on our door with a dinner reservation secured. It was perfect and our table had a lovely view over the bay. Breakfast has fresh fruit and lots of options. Unfailing charming people loved our stay and highly recommend it. We felt valued. Katy.

Management and staff always very friendly and attentive. Very helpful with suggestions for things to do, or places to go. Amazing when putting together a last minute reservation for the restaurant - Frasers at the Bracken Hide. Breakfasts were outstanding, will be hard to find a better one.

Eat at least once at Frasers at the Bracken Hide, do a whiskey tasting with the whiskey guy at the bar at Frasers. Visit Dunvegan Castle, the Kilt Rock, Torabhaig distillery and Talisker.

The lady who served us (sorry missed out on asking her name) was kind and even made some suggestions for nieces walks in town. Thomas in the front desk made check in and check out smooth. Mum and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Caledonian Hotel in Portree. The room was large, updated and very comfortable. The instructions to find the carpark were easy to follow and we always managed to get a parking space, even after returning late in the afternoon. Breakfast in the dinning room was lovely! Plenty of food options with fruit, cereals, snacks, yogurts, as well as porridge and a full Scottish breakfast! Thomas and the lovely lady who served us breakfast were so friendly and helpful. It was one of our favourite stays for that reason.

Thomas at the front desk is WONDERFUL! He was so helpful and told us about beautiful places to go. The breakfast was delicious. The best continental breakfast I have ever had. The location was in the heart of downtown and perfect for walking various places.

Take the bus all the way around. Hike Old Man of Storr, find the dinosaur footprints at Staffin Beach, walk thru Fairy Glen.

It was a good experience and the staff was very nice and friendly. The room was comfortable and clean, we have got perhaps the one without Mountain View, but it’s ok. The only suggestion is to improve the ventilation system in the toilet. It is quite noisy and remains on 10 minutes after the light goes off. I had to make sure to not turn on the light during night 😄 Nice breakfast, I appreciated the service at the table.

The hotel is in a central location and with a parking lot. From there you can move around the town, or is a great starting point to do a car tour of Skye. There are some restaurants near by, we have been in the one immediately next to the hotel, where they served a good quality fish.

Me and my girlfriend recently stayed at The Caledonian and couldn’t recommend it enough. When checking in we were met with a big welcome and were shown immediately to our room. The room itself was extremely clean and very modern. TV inside had channels and also Netflix. Showers were extremely good as well. I would highly recommend getting the breakfast as service was extremely quick and an array of options to have. The hotel itself is very clean and is in the perfect location. There is plenty of pubs in the vicinity and an easy walk to most local bars. Co-op is literally round the corner for all food essentials.

I would recommend a minimum of a 2 night stay to try and see all the things you want to and not run out of time. As we travelled slightly out of the popular season, roads were quiet but I would imagine from April onwards this will change with the better weather so be prepared to be running behind schedule if this is the case, especially if your itenary includes single track roads (however majority of roads are in immaculate condition). Unfortunately we never got to clearly see the Old man of storr due to weather conditions but that would be my main tip alongside the Quiraing, Sligachan Bridge, Neist Point Lighthouse, Kilt Rock Falls, Lealt Falls and Elgol.

This is an outstanding hotel, run by masters of hospitality. They seemed to have thought of everything, and whatever came up they were quick to provide. The breakfast was first-rate. The owner and his son were really helpful with advice on sightseeing. It was a memorable stay, earning our strongest recommendation.

With so many tourists, a shortage of labor, and obvious supply chain issues there was very little flexibility in obtaining meals. On one occasion we were told we could dine at a place at 5pm the next day if we could be in and out in one hour. We recommend that visitors make reservations well in advance.

Dennis gave us a very warm welcome on arrival. He was also available later to advise on walks around Skye, which we uptook. Emma was very efficient and prompt at breakfast, both mornings. We would highly recommend this newly refurbished town centre hotel.

We ate at one local Indian restaurant, called A Taste of India as the other, the Prince of India did not have a card machine and was empty. There are many good restaurants and shops around Portree. There are spectacular walks all around the island.

Dennis and his wife were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for them. Hotel was very clean and tidy with gel in all the right places. Only two things that weren’t up to scratch were the mattress needs changing and the Wi-Fi wasn’t what I would expect (1.4mps) which was very slow. Would definitely go back though.

Right in centre of Portree with plenty restaurants on the doorstep. Some fantastic scenery around but trip to Eglon was amazing with something to photograph round almost every bend.

Clara and Don were the most amazing hosts! Caring, personable, and most accommodating. Rooms were so well kept. Breakfast was delicious and filling. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with them at their wonderful hotel!

Make dinner reservations early at Portree restaurants. They fill up fast.

Dennis was very helpful on the phone prior to booking and also on arrival. All the staff were pleasant and accommodating. Good breakfast provided. Although we were provided with bottled water in the room, it was our choice to refill our water bottles and they were happy to do this.

A lot of the restaurants were closed, so advisable to order book a table.

There are a number of very good restaurants in Portree but you need to book well in advance, up to a week, of your visit otherwise you will have to rely on Takeaway meals or queue for long periods at those restaurants, like the Lower Deck, that did not take bookings. Staff shortages means that many restaurants are either only open part of the week or have limitations on numbers.

My partner and I booked here to stay as I had stay here a few years ago. We were absolutely amazed and so impressed with the quality of service and welcoming environment. The owners (Dennis and Clara) are the most thoughtful people ever and went above and beyond for anything we needed. Our room was perfect in a quiet wee part of the hotel and was very spacious and homely. The breakfast was next to nothing each time we had it. The location in Portree is spot on. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else when visiting Skye.

We visited in August which is obviously a high season for holiday. We can hardly find cheaper options and eventually booked with this one for 120 per night for two nights. (Youth hostel is also over a hundred pounds.) A small family run hotel which we turned out to like it very very much. It is centrally located in Portree which is arguably the best base to explore Skye. Many restaurants are in walking distance and a co-op food store is next door. The room is the largest we stayed in our two weeks holiday, and with seaview. The breakfast was one of the best you can expect from this price range. It was very difficult to book for dinner and the host welcomed bringing takeaway to consume in the room. This is truly customer oriented. Due to other problem in scheduling our trip, we have to stay for one more night. Fortunately there was one vacancy for that night. And the host honoured his policy to give 10% discount for three nights stay. He could have hidden this from us as we were desperate in looking for extension. He was honest in his business and our third night ended up effectively 30% discount. Very highly recommended.

The hotel does not have its own bar but there are some nice lively bars within a few minutes walking distance.
