3rd June 2024:
A lovely refuge after a long drive up. The bed was amazingly comfortable. The room had everything that we needed and Lower Breakish is very quiet and peaceful, but Broadford and its facilities are only a few minutes away. The hosts (and their lovely dog) are really friendly and warm, as well as being very knowledgeable about Skye. We would definitely use the Hideaway again, if we ever return to this part of Skye.
Tips:Elgol is only about a 40 minute drive and we went out to Loch Coruisk and the Black Cuillins with Misty Isle boat trips - it was absolutely stunning and highly recommended. The Gabbro bar at the side of the Broadford Hotel was really good and serves a great pint of Guinness. We had dinner at the Harbour Restaurant and it was beautiful. The Spanish chef Cristina and her Scots partner were both lovely and more to the point, the food was amazing!

We had a lovely time at the Hideaway. We had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The bed was super sized & comfy. Angela made us very welcome & left us some provisions - butter, bread & milk which was very useful. The location was very quiet.
Tips:The Bothy coffee house sells lovely cakes & sandwiches. There is a seafood shack by the Claymore restaurant near Broadford that does takeaway.

Angela was welcoming and very friendly. She made us feel right at home. Gave good advice on pla es to see. And even went out on her kayak with Tony to show him the best route to take. The stay was perfect. The accommodation is really lovely. Well equipped and spotless.we had an amazing time on Skye. Thank you.
Tips:If you don't mind a walk, the into Broadford was lovely. The scenery on the whole Isle is stunning. The Fairy pools are an absolute must.we visited Armadale Castle, the gardens are beautiful. Would check cafe opening times before you go as unfortunately it was closed when we went. There as so many lovely places to see, our advice would be just go out and explore.

30th June 2023:
Very nice studio in the south of Skye island, a few kilometers after the bridge. Very nice welcome from Angela and Derek. Very quiet. One only point: As said in the studio presentation, there is no cooking hob but several electric kitchen equipment (gill, ...) which are less convenient and more difficult to clean. Easily doable but you have to know it.
Tips:The Skye island is big and you will need about 80 kilometers (one way) to go to the north. We spent whole days out to visit and hike in Skye, avoiding twice the road in the same day. You are also close from Eilean Donan castle. We loved Plockton outside of Skye island and 1 hour the seals trip (very kind staff on the boat).

1st June 2023:
The Bijou Hideaway was a very nice place to stay. It is the nicest place I have stayed at in Scotland. Everything was nice - not over the top, just good quality, suitable and useful. I really liked the puffin crockery.
Tips:I enjoyed the local walk via the fields, the coast and Waterloo into Broadford. I had a lovely meal at Cafesia in Broadford. The little shops near the Co-op have some lovely gifts and souvenirs. I enjoyed the walks I did in Glen Sligachan and to Camasunary. I encourage other visitors to not just drive around the island - use Terry Marsh's excellent guide to walks on Skye and do some of the wonderful walks.

7th November 2022:
Since 2 years of pandemy we tried to travel to Isle of Skye and we kept our first choice on our accomodation until this day : The Bijou Hideaway. Now that we did it, the experience was worth the wait and we don't regret our choice at all. The flat is clean, the bed confortable, the kitchen very convenient and Angela is around if you get any problem or if you want an advice (or a DVD on stormy day.) The location, on a strip of land, offers an amazing view, just enough wild and isolated. But you're next to Broadford with all facilities. For the price the Bijou is far beyond what we expected and we absolutely recommend it.
Tips:- If you go there from Edinburgh like we did, choose the way through Trossachs National Park and the fabulous Glen Coe Valley. - Don't fear the rain, but fear a litle bit the wind especially if you go to Neist Point. - Great touristic attractions : Old man of Storr of course, Portree, Kilt rock, Glen Faeries, the breathtaking road to Elgol, Neist Point.

22nd June 2022:
Very welcoming and helpful. Accommodation was perfect for 2 of us, just needed to plan meals to ensure the cooking equipment was suitable for what we had planned. Perfect position to be away from it all.
Tips:Red Skye restaurant, a 5 minute drive, was exceptional, but you need to book in advance. Very few pubs or shops on the island. Only 3 coops, one at Broadford, one at Portree, one near Uig, all quite pricey so take some food with you. Self catering is the best option as very few places for lunch or dinner. The Broadford Hotel is welcoming for non-residents. Weather can be very wet and changes rapidly so take appropriate clothing

The Bijou Hideaway is a fantastic place with stunning views. It has everything you would need. The place was extremely comfortable and warm. We were made most welcome by Angela. I would definitely stay there again.
Tips:We visited Plockton which has stunning scenery and had lunch in the Plockton Inn. The drive up to Portree was great, again some breathtaking scenery. We were fortunate to have dry sunny weather for most of our stay.

14th October 2021:
Great place to stay for a break on the Isle of Skye. Very peaceful with very beautiful views. The Bijou Hideaway has all the facilities you need - shower room, cooking facilities and fridge. The King Size bed can be made into two single beds if required. The hosts Angela and Derek are very knowledgeable and will help you with ideas of where to visit or eat whilst on your stay. I stayed here in 2019 on my own and liked it so much that I booked it for the following year but due to the Covid Pandemic was unable to visit then however Angela said I could have the same dates for the following year which was great as I brought a friend this time to enjoy and also loved it as much as I did in 2019. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Tips:The Claymore, Cafe Sia, The Hebridian and the BrOadford Hotel are all OK in Briadford the nearest town. Portree has more coffee shops and restaurants which are also OK. Plenty of walks to do. If you go to the "Fairy Pools" please be aware that you have to cross streams over not so secure rocks and need sturdy footwear.

Nice and clean studio perfect for short to medium stays. Andjela was a very good host and she did everything in order to make our stay pleasant. If we need accommodation on the Island again we will try to book this one again.
Tips:As I almost never follow what other people are recommending I’m not going to do a list of recommendations. Obviously there are certain spots on the island that are so well know that they are unavoidable. For me the beauty and thrill is in the unknown and I always try to give serendipity a chance.

Owner Response:Thank you for the lovely review. It was lovely to meet you both. I totally agree with your comments regarding the tips. There are so many hidden places to find. Hope to see you again some time.

23rd October 2019:
It was Bijou in size but more than Bijou in outlook over the Loch. What a lovely place to stay. The owners were very pleasant and knowledgeable of the area and even provided maps for walks on Skye.(very helpful) The apartment was very clean and tidy and you could have either one big bed or two single beds, either of which you could lie in all day and admire the view from the Patio doors. Although there was no cooker, a Microwave and other electrical appliances were provided to enable you to make a meal. I would wholeheartedly recommend this apartment to anyone wanting to have a relaxing holiday.
Tips:The Red Skye restaurant was only 5 minutes away by car but I feel as though it has gone downhill over the years of going there, however, if its what you like and are willing to pay a little bit more then I would recommend it. There are numerous and varied pubs and restaurants all over the Isle of Skye, in Portree I went to Ariba which was OK for a brunch/lunch. Lots of walks and places to visit (Old Man of Storr, Quaraing, Kilt Rock etc on the NE side and Talisker Whisky and Dunvegan on NW side to name but a view.

A lovely studio apartment which is attached to the owner's own property. There is a small patio area directly outside the studio for guest use with views across the countryside and bird feeders! The apartment was spotless and very comfortable. Don't be put off by the lack of cooking facilities. There is plenty there to use for cooking. The wifi is very useful as my phone signal was a bit on and off. The owners are absolutely lovely and gave me a very warm and friendly welcome. If you love peace, scenery and wildlife but want to be near to civilisation, then I would highly recommend this apartment.
Tips:I would highly recommend a visit to Applecross and Torridon area. The scenery is breathtaking. I even saw a White Tailed Eagle whilst I was there. Have a wander across the Skye Bridge at dusk, I saw Otters there at this time. Go to Elgol for a stunning sunset.

9th May 2018:
Very friendly couple who are justly proud of the Bijou Hideaway. The only things that may improve the facilities would be the provision of a couple of air-tight storage containers (tins for biscuits or tupperware type containers for other food) and maybe different towels that don't moult!
Tips:Superb walks from the door out onto the Ardnish peninsula (fantastic for wildlife spotting) and at low tide to Ashaig beach, both great view points. The walk into Broadford along the Waterloo Road is recommended for superb views over Broadford Bay. Also very handy for exploring Sleat and Strath.

Owner Response:Thank you for your review and excellent suggestions. I will certainly look into getting some air tight containers. Apologies for the molting towels. They are still new and take a few washes to de-fluff. Glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again.

Absolutely charming hosts. They went out of their way to help us. Suggestions about spots to eat, places to see and walks to take. We stayed in the self contained unit and were quite happily able to cook some meals. The Broadford CoOp has everything you need to make cooking enjoyable. We were even able to seat friends at our table for a dinner for 4. Angela and Derek helped us at every turn. Thanks so much you two As an aside. You will need a car to get around Skye and you will need at minimum 3 days to get an unhurried overview of Skye. The Bijou Hideaway is completely furnished with everything you would need for a lovely, quiet, peaceful getaway. Angela and Derek are very warm and welcoming and very communicative. We vacationed in order to get married and spend the first days of our honeymoon - it could not have been a more perfect stay and we are overjoyed with our memories of the hideaway.
Tips:Take a day trip to Elgol and take the Misty Isle Boat ride to Loch Coruisk - everything about the trip from the ride to Elgol to the scenery at Loch Coruisk is pure bliss. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bijou Hideaway. We felt warmly welcomed, and the Dougans were very accommodating in allowing us to arrive late in the evening. The studio was impeccably clean and well appointed. The location is quiet and central enough to visit the island very easily by car.
Tips:We enjoyed Red Skye restaurant as others had recommended. We did a great boat ride to the Loch of Coruisk and hike around the loch and up into the Cuillin. The Old Man of Storr and Quiraing is also not to be missed. The Talisker distillery and Fairy Pools are definitely worth seeing.

Lovely hosts, made us feel very welcome! Allowing the addition of ordering breakfast was a nice touch. Plenty of information on what to do and where to go. Given its a studio, it doesn't feel small. Very clean with all the mod cons you could think of. Only thing missing is maybe a net for the door so the midges can't get in. But all in all a perfect break away! Will 100% recommend to others.
Tips:The red Skye restaurant is an absolute must! Amazing food and service, but best to book! Getting around by bike was a good option, but go careful on the main roads. A visit to the cafe in torrin was also beautiful as great views!

Is exactly what it says it is! Fully equipt to a very high standard and an excellent concept for people who wants the freedom of self catering without paying the cost of renting a house.
