26th April 2024:
We first visited Skye Lair in 2022 and were blown away by its design and location. With this being our second visit, there is always a concern that it may not be quite as good as we remembered. It was even better! This cleverly designed and stunningly located beautiful property is maintained to a very high standard and there are all those little touches that transform it from a house into a home. As you enter you are greeted in every room by the wonderful array of aromas from Skye Candle Company reed diffusers. In the bath, shower rooms and kitchen one is afforded the luxury of Laura Thomas Co. liquid soaps and shampoos. The intelligent owner whets your appetite for exploring and supporting local businesses with her great recommendations, not one single one of which has been a disappointment, indeed it has been such a pleasure to support the range of incredibly enterprising individuals who live and work in the area. More than that she very naughtily dangles carrots by leaving you a welcoming bar of Glen Shiel chocolate - once tasted, never forgotten. Skye Lair is well-equipped and generous supplies of kitchen/utility essentials – dishwasher tablets, laundry liquid and the like – are provided. The house is warm, well-furnished and spotlessly clean, the beds are just so comfortable that it is hard not to spend a little too long in them surveying the surrounding vista through the cinematic Velux windows; with big white fluffy towels, bath robes and slippers provided this is as good as any Five Star hotel and everything works as it should do. The location is outstanding with the most exceptional westerly views down to the bay and across the water to the mainland painted from sunrise to sunset with an ever-changing palette of colours.

Owner Response:Well that is one big WOW of a review Peter & Anne! Would you like to be my PR consultants?! Joking aside, you are return visitors so it is an even more affirming and wonderful thing for me to read your beautifully comprehensive evaluation of Skye Lair. You have truly recognised all of the detail and work that goes in to make the house the best experience for anyone choosing Skye Lair for their island holiday. I so appreciate what you've written - and 'Haste Ye Back' as we say in Scotland!

Absolutely incredible stay at SkyeLair - the property is beautifully designed, great facilities, and Melanie is an extremely communicative and generous host. We stayed with two young children and there was a great amount of space, inside and out. The view is incredible and we had a wonderful time.

Owner Response:How lovely to read that you all enjoyed Skye Lair, thanks so much for your kind words! Travelling with young kids is sometimes challenging (I speak from experience) so it's great to know everyone was able to relax and have a great holiday together.

1st April 2024:
We enjoyed 2 luxurious nights at the Skye Lair. We were a family of 4 and cannot say enough good things about our stay. The beds were extremely comfortable and we had our best nights sleep during our stay. We also had access to laundry; including detergent and softener. Also, having 2 showers was amazing. The bathrooms included shower gel. The shower gel was so amazing I inquired with the company to have some shipped to the United States. I would definitely recommend Skye Lair to anyone. Contact with the owner, the views, and amenities was top notch. I hope to make it back to Scotland soon and Skye Lair is the only place I will be booking again. Melanie, thank you for your hospitality we definitely enjoyed our stay and your little slice of heaven. Thank you from the Palmer Family.

Owner Response:What a truly lovely review to receive, I'm so pleased the whole family was able to build wonderful memories at Skye Lair and enjoyed a great holiday on the island! It sounds like you really appreciated all the little touches at the house, I'm so pleased and it was great that some Laura Thomas Scottish amenities made it across the pond, I make it a point to support local businesses.

15th March 2024:
Since our first trip to Scotland, the Highlands and especially the Isle of Skye is our favourite destination. We were lucky to spend 6 sunny days at Skye Lair and from booking to departure it was just perfect. The only small thing that might be improved is the water pressure in the upstairs bathroom.Even after adjusting the shower head it was quite low, but that is whining at a high level. So if you are looking for a bright and airy accommodation with stunning views that is well equipped, beautifully furnished and has all the extra little touches making you want to stay forever, then Skye Lair is your place to be.
Tips:We love the diffusors from the Isle of Skye Candle Company giving a different scent to every room at Skye Lair.Unfortunately we missed to stop at their large visitor centre in Portree. But as they run a small shop in Broadford too, we were able to buy some scented candles there which are wonderful as souvenirs.
Would Recommend: Yes
Owner Response:Thanks so much for your comprehensive and complimentary review, I'm so pleased you had a great stay! I did check the shower head and it seems fine, the water pressure isn't perhaps what one finds in city locations as the water comes from our nearby reservoir via a tank. The diffusers really create a lovely atmosphere in the house, I'm so glad you enjoyed them and purchased local souvenirs of your happy times on Skye.

29th February 2024:
The best house we have ever had during our holidays. Everything is excellent and especially cosy decorated too. After a day walking it was so good coming home in this house. The wood stove did also a good job and plenty of wood in stock. Our dog felt immediately at home. Every day we could see the deer in front of our house. Just staring out of the big window with a fresh cup of coffee was a great feeling. You can see the mountains with snow on it and the sea. We could even see a Whiskey Distillery below the hills. We did book 1 night extra because we did not want to leave this house. We were just with the 2 of us, so did not use the second bathroom and bedroom. Skye Lair was fantastic to stay and when you like quiet surrounding with just nature this is perfect!
Tips:For hikers you should visit the Quiraing and also a walk to Glennbrittle is fantastic. Great views we had with snow on the mountains and many waterfalls. Actually every part of Skye is beautiful, so where ever you go to is good. We stayed in February and many restaurants and coffee shops are closed then, but we did not mind at all. We were self catered all day long.

An exceptionally beautiful abode, inside and out, every amenity you could want, and a joy to look out the windows to the fields and water and mountains, wnile lounging, eating, and doing the dishes (yes, there is a dishwasher, but with such a view, save the electricity!). Melanie provides excellent advice about everything!
Tips:Make sure to take the stroll/wee hike up to the hill above the house—mind the sheep.

The house itself was so wonderful, nothing was missing and it was even equipped with anything you may need, like shower gel, soap, cleaning fluids, dishwater tabs and wonderful coffee for the Nespresso machine. Even fresh flowers for a warm welcome. All communication with Melanie was so welcoming as well. We have been many times on Skye but this accommodation was the best. Many thanks.
Tips:The Bar Am Pràban at Hotel Eilean Iarmain is a must, wonderful food in winter even with a cozy fire place. The CoOp in Broadford offers anything you will need, McKenzie bakery in Porree is a must and anyway Skye is just beautiful.

This has to be the best place we have ever stayed. The house has the most magnificent views and is in a beautiful location. The house itself is so clean and the most amazing scents hit you as you walk in making it feel so luxurious. It has everything you need but keeps it all cleverly stored away so there’s no clutter. We honestly cannot fault anything, we had the most perfect stay!

Owner Response:How heartwarming to read your lovely review, thank you SO much! We work hard to make sure everything is perfect, to create an immaculate and relaxing environment for all our guests. 9th April 2023:
We had a great stay at Skye Lair, it felt luxurious to come home to after a day out. It was very cosy and warm and we didn’t need to light the wood burner but there was plenty of wood had we needed to. Loved sitting by the big picture windows and watching the ever-changing weather over the sea. The house is really well equipped and I appreciated all the thoughtful extras like good coffee pods and tea bags and candles/bathrobes etc. The boys loved the big TV with all the channels! We would love to return.
Tips:We had a wonderful day driving round the sights of the island and can recommend the Oyster Shed for a bite to eat, near Talisker distillery. Also enjoyed walking the Point of Sleat and having our packed lunch on a lovely sandy beach, all to ourselves.
Would Recommend: Yes
Owner Response:I'm so very pleased you all had a good time at Skye Lair! Thanks for noticing all the little touches added to ensure everyone is comfy and happy. It's so nice to enjoy really good coffee and tea when relaxing with those views! Thanks also for your recommendations to other guests, isn't that beach at the Point of Sleat just glorious, at all times of year.

Owner Response:Thanks so much for your kind words, I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay! And thanks for your recommendation for other guests, absolutely agree, those Cuillin views are amazing and such a short drive from Skye Lair. It's a lovely out and back loop to drive (or cycle) round.

Thank you for having us to stay in your beautiful home. Lovely, super comfortable, cosy- warm cottage. Beautiful decor, excellent facilities and every comfort thought of. We loved the candles, robes and slippers amongst other things! The views are absolutely wonderful. We really felt completely relaxed and inspired at the same time. Lovely walks from the house and winter swimming down by the castle. We couldn’t have wished for more.
Tips:The ferry to Mallaig worked very well. The walks close to the house and all around Sleat were fantastic- our favourite was the Aird of Sleat with its wonderful views and sandy beach all to ourselves. The Armadale shop was excellent with delicious organic foods and veg.

Our second time at Skye Lair & it didn’t in the slightest disappoint again, a beautiful venue and very comfortable cottage from where it’s easy to explore Skye. Melanie presents the accommodation is a very welcoming way and the house is immaculate.
Tips:Lots of walks, great café’s & restaurants within a short drive. We like to use the cottage as a base to explore Sleat & the rest of the island, especially as you return each day to such comfortable accommodation.

29th October 2022:
Beautifully equipped luxurious holiday home. Everything has been thought of and provided with comfort and style. We are experienced travellers and renters and this ranks as one of the best places we have stayed. Our only regret was not staying longer.
Tips:The location is in a beautiful area but less rugged than other parts of the island so allow at least 60 minutes of driving if you are keen to see many of the celebrated attractions. We did plan a trip to Raasay but the ferry was cancelled due to weather which can happen frequently outside of the summer. We highly recommend the walk to point of Sleat where there is a beautiful small sandy beach Camas Daraich en route to the lighthouse.

Owner Response:Thanks so much for your very kind words, I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay. Isn't the wee beach a pleasure, and such gorgeous views. Save Raasay for the next time, a dram awaits you!

Absolutely impeccable! I cannot recommend Skye Lair highly enough. The location, the design, the amenities, 200% comfortable, and magnificent views. Melanie is a great communicator with an impeccable eye, and the house has everything you could want: from waffle dressing gowns and slippers to an endless supply of kindling and logs for the wood burner. The five days at Skye Lair were some of the best spent anywhere.
Tips:Bar Am Pràban at nearby Hotel Eilean Iarmain serves delicious pan-fried langoustines and fresh scallops, while waist-coated Cornelius is gallic charm personified.

We were blown away, it was just amazing! the only tiny little things to improve: - knives should be sharpened once in a while. they are all very blunt. - the scale in the kitchen needs new batteries. - the logs should be smaller for this kind of oven, it was really hard to get a fire going.

The measures taken to counteract Covid risks were second to none we have encountered and showed very great care for guests combined with encouragement to respect the health of the local small communities.
Tips:An Crubh is a gem of a local store, post office and cafe;Armadale community shop has an impressive array of loose staples - I have struggled in the South-East of England to find sour cherries on occasion but not so here! Deli Gasta and the Coffee Bothy are fine examples of enterprising young businesses. It is though hard to tear oneself away from the joyous setting of Skye Lair.

We had a wonderful stay at Skye Lair. The location is fantastic with truly beautiful , ever changing views. The accommodation was impressive too. Beautifully furnished and very clean. The log burner was an add3d bonus and there was unlimited wood for this.
Tips:We deliberately chose to visit out of season to enjoy Skye at its magnificent best. Some restaurants and tourist places were closed, but there were plenty of cafes : local village shop with excellent cafe, Deli Gusto in Broadford. We treated ourselves to a lovely lunch at Kinloch Lodge. Visiting Skye in November means the days are short, but the house was so cosy this was a bonus not a negative. We spent more time enjoying it. However, this time of year may not suit everyone. You need to be prepared for all weathers.

Owner Response:Thanks so much for your very kind words about Skye Lair. You're quite right, it is a cosy retreat in winter and as long as you dress correctly, Skye can be enjoyed year round. Deli Gasta and Kinloch House are such welcoming places, with excellent food, thanks for mentioning them to guide other guests.

This house is just fantastic. Beautiful contemporary house in a very quiet area. I cannot rate this house highly enough. It is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Melanie is a lovely person to deal with, nothing was a problem. Lastly and more importantly was the view from the house, it was like a postcard, just beautiful. I could have stayed looking at it for hours it was just gorgeous. Another delight was the night sky full of stars. Everyone should get to experience Skye Lair. I will never forget it.
Tips:The house is on top of a hill which gave you the advantage of the beautiful unspoilt view. You will need a car to get about.

Skye Lair is a stunning R-House settled into the hills of Skye with the most spectacular views from every window. Comfortable, warm and stocked with all the essentials, it was a fantastic place to return to each day after exploring the island. Owner was fantastic to deal with—great communication and very welcoming! Highly Recommended!
Tips:For breakfast and lunch, I highly recommend Deli Gasta in nearby Broadford. Fairy Pools and Brother's Point are must-sees. Bring the hiking boots for both though!

Amazing Lodge. Very warm and comfortable with glorious views. Our wee grandson loved playing in the garden and riding his bike over the grass. We wish we were still there.
Tips:It is in a beautiful area of Skye. We took a trip to Elgol which was well worth the views of the Cuillin. We took another trip to Quiraing in Trotternish and had a walk up there. We didn't have time to go to the Fairy pools or the Coral beach but next time we will. There is so much to see on Skye even if you are not a hillwalker. We didn't eat out but we were very impressed with the local Coop in Broadford for supplies.

Beautiful and comfortable. After a day of walking it was treat to have everything we needed to cook dinner, set a fire, and cuddle up for a movie. We particularly loved the area, it didn’t feel quite as busy as other areas of Skye we’ve visited.
Tips:We loved Red Sky! And the day trip to Mallaig was the best!! Saw dolphins from the ferry and rode bikes to Loch Morar and saw the sand beaches! Delicious fish and chips at the end, a bonus. We also visited the otter hide from the guide book, but it’s not open yet. (you can still see down the hill to the beach though)

Fabulous house, amazing views and everything you need for a comfortable stay. Would highly recommend for a peaceful break, it was wonderful to get a change of scenery as nice as this!!
Tips:We tended to eat out during the day and cook in the evening but plenty of places to visit within a 15 minute radius (driving) for a nice meal. Fairy pools and glenbrittle beach were a highlight in the sun. If it’s a nice day getting to coral beach past Dunvegan is a challenge as it can be very busy so best to go first thing.

A beautiful modern house with stunning views, in the south of Skye, a long way to drive to many of the main attractions. We met our daughter and son-in-law and 2 year old granddaughter there for a long weekend. It was ideal, warm, very comfortable beds, well equipped, super clean and has space and light. An excellent cot was provided. Cannot fault it and would definitely recommend as a retreat or for a short stay.
Tips:We visited Armadale Castle and gardens only a few miles away and had a most pleasant time, walks, garden, interesting museum and excellent cafe for lunch. It is also the ferry port; catching the ferry to or from Mallaig can split up a long car journey. Our 2 year old granddaughterloved it! We toured most of the island; most notable were Talisker distillery, Staffin museum (dinosaur footprints) and Skyeskyns who produce the softest of soft sheepskin rugs. The Torevaigh Hotel very near Skye Lair provided a very expensive but delicious meal, note that the cheapest bottle of wine is £35!
