It was a great house with a lovely view. Our hostess was very nice and helpful with her information about the area and where to eat. We enjoyed our stay.

The Isles pub was great and the little bakery next to it has the best breakfast pastries! Don't miss the Fairy Pools or the Quairang!

Excellent view from the room facing the sea. Alyce is a very friendly host who we have encountered. She made us feel very welcome and guided us to navigate Isle of Skye in a very efficient way. She gave us little tips and pointers on what could be missed, and what is must-see. She has kept a little guide book for the guests, in which all the imp eating points, and general info is given. it felt as if someone personally wrote it for me. in this time of chatgpt, we found it very cute and refreshing! we already mentioned to her, that we would definitely suggest this stay to our friends and that she can expect us as repeat guests as well.

The new Highland Cow Coffee Shop in Portree has good coffee and also a good selection of cow related goodies.

Heronfield is a lovely and welcoming space. Our hosts were knowledgeable and helpful about Portree and the Isle of Skye. Our rooms were beautifully appointed and the view over the bay from our windows was spectacular. We also felt good about returning to such a comforting place for the night. We so appreciated the ride to Glasgow at the last minute and in such capable hands.

We loved Birch Cafe for breakfast in Portree. Several nice places for dinner on the square in Portree.

The house is very clean and comfortable and has a great location very near the center of Portree. I stayed in the "cosy en suite double room," and it was in fact quite small. It was fine for one person, but I don't think 2 adults would be comfortable in that particular room. My favorite thing about the room was the amazing water pressure in the shower. Wonderful after a long day of hiking on Skye.

We can highly recommend Heronfield for travellers to Portree. Alyce is an excellent hostess,friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and informative and went above and beyond to help us enjoy our stay. Heronfield fully deserves 5 stars for everything,and the views are stunning. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Travelling down from Lewis by ferry and bus we decided to walk to Heronfield with our luggage. Although a short walk it is uphill and I'd suggest others who may decide to do that to get a very reasonable costing taxi from the Square 😊

Alice was a superb host and if you’ve never been to Skye before she is a fountain of knowledge for things to do and places to go/eat etc. The room was fantastic. It was very quiet, comfortable and clean. It’s in a great location being only a short walk to town and also to the candle shop and pizza restaurant. Not to mention the stunning view. Would definitely go back without hesitation.

This is one of the nicest places I’ve ever stayed. The room was immaculate, attractive, and comfortable. It’s close enough to town that it is an easy and pleasant walk. But the real star of Heronfield is Alice, our hostess. She made me feel as is I had come home. She is a delight. She had recommendations for places to visit in Skye and places to eat in Portree. One cannot go wrong choosing Heronfield for their Skye holiday.

Alyce was so helpful both before our arrival and when we did arrive. She generously provided a list of local restaurants and things to do. She did recommend booking a restaurant reservation in advance which we didn’t do as we didn’t know what time we would be there. I wish we had because the waits were over 2 hrs and we were lucky we got in for dinner. We had the room with the ensuite and we were so happy with it. The room was spotless with a beautiful view. Other than dinner reservations, my only regret is we didn’t stay longer!

Not too far (20min drive) to Kilt Rock, beautiful area.. The Isles Inn dinner was delicious.

Alojamiento excelente, limpieza de 10 y Alyce te recomienda restaurantes y sitios para visitar, es una anfitriona de 10. Hay una zona de comedor con nevera y vajilla para poder comer o desayunar si se quiere. La cana es super comoda y las vistas son expectaculares. El baño grande con jabon y champú y super limpio. Recomiendo este alojamiento, se está muy a gusto, sin problemas para aparcar. Si vuelvo por la zona repetiré sin dudarlo. Gracias Alyce

Heronfield’s location is great. A short drive to the Old Man of Storr, location of many movies. We also hiked the Quiraing. Relish Portree is a must visit. Great ambience and the girls attending were very kind.

Our hostess and the accommodation get five stars out of a possible five! It was och impeccably clean and a view to die for. An extra plus for the binoculars we found in a chest of drawers. The breakfast room worked great with a fridge and crockery. We can highly recommend Heronfield and will be happy to return!

Sea Breezes Restaurant at the Quay St. The Scorrybreac Trail from Cuillin Hills Hotel carpark, a nice walk with great views. Birch Cafe at Bayfield Rd have the best coffee. The Granary for lunch and MacKenzie's Bakery, both at Portree Sq. Fish & chips at An Alla Mor Eighteen Twenty for good food and the nice feeling in this old church.

At Heronfield you'll find a great host, always attentive, kind and happy to help. Alyce went above and beyond sending us great advices prior to our arrival and kindly answering all our additional questions when we arrived, this enabled us to enjoy our stay and get the most of every experience. Always smiling and welcoming she made us feel at easy and happy to be her guests. The room was spotless and beautiful with a great view to the garden, the bed very comfortable with a spacious and airy in suite. We'd love to go back at Heronfield and we recommend you might have the opportunity to enjoy it as well

Follow Alyce's advices: we had a great breakfast at Caffè Arriba, dinner at West Pier Restaurant - Skeabost House Hotel and Dulse and Brose. Everything is so beautiful!

We checked in after hiking for a few days and really enjoyed the comfy beds and the warm showers. Our host was friendly and Heronfield provided us with everything we needed to explore Portree. It’s located only a short walk outside of Portree and there are sidewalks so it wasn’t a big deal. The view of from our room was amazing!

Pleasant stay, though a bit pricey. But Skye/Portree have a huge tourist demand which drives the prices.

All the restaurants in Portree are heavily understaffed. As such, they heavily restrict the number of people that can be in the restaurant at once. This means you can either get in and eat around 5:30-6 or wait until 8pm. We were surprised to be turned away from every restaurant in the town around 6:30-7. No big deal, just sipped some beers until things freed up.

Alyce was extremely helpful and accomdating. Our room was excellent with an incredible view and huge bathroom. It is a wee bit of a walk to the town center, 15 minutes but its safe and has sidewalks. I have a bad hip so we took cab back forth which worked well and was inexpenisve.

Make reservations for dinner for every nite you are in Portree and make them months ahead if you can; if you don't you are not eating dinner. Several of the pubs also require resevations! Caberfeidh has excellent pizza in restaurant style. When we were there pub 1820 had trad music at nite. Scorrybreac resturant is excellent; a bit pricey but worth it.

Alyce is the perfect BnB host: friendly, eager to make you feel at home, and full of useful local information. She readily passed on her enthusiasm for Skye and all it has to offer. Breakfasts in town ended up being a highlight of our stay. Heronfield has a dining room with fridge for guests, which meant that on the one day we needed it we could get in supplies and make our own.

Highly recommend Dulse&Brose and Antler's Bar & Grill which both served us excellent evening meals. Just make sure you book well in advance. Breakfasts at Café Arriba were a real treat. For those wanting to walk but not keen to climb the Cuillins we would recommend The Old Man of Storr where there is a moderate route as well as a steep one. The walk out to Neist Point Lighthouse was also really worthwhile, provided you're ok with lots of steps down and then back up. We are fit seniors and had no trouble with either. These also let you see the very different terrain on the eastern and western sides of the island.

Heronfield is a convenient place near Portree, the rooms are quite comfortable, well equipped and absolutely clean. If available, take the room with the sea view, which is better than any TV program. We were out for Dinner in The Upper Deck, which was really good. For any activity on Skye, Heronfield is a good place as host.

We were on the the 3 days tour with Tour Skye, it was great, with a very prepared driver with all the interesting stories, and a small group of cool people to travel with, if you don't have a car it's the best way to explore the island.

This is a place that gets the things that matters right. The bed was extremely comfortable, with crisp cotton sheets. Shower was spacious, hot and with excellent water pressure. The whole place was spotlessly clean and spacious. And the view! Just an amazing view over the bay. Alyce, our host, was warm, welcoming and gave great suggestions.
