Monkstadt 1745 - Restaurant with Rooms

we enjoyed the traditional luxury of the spce, plus the coziness and comfort of our well appointed room. I also enjoyed the attentiveness to my dietary needs, which were all met without hesitation. The Whiskey Bar as well was a plus.

The hotel is about 30 minutes outside Portree. Great starting place for sightseeing on the island

This was the highlight of our trip to Scotland. The coach house was beautifully appointed and we only wish we had more time here. The food and service were. It’s a beautiful wild place and an excellent base from which to explore Skye. Thankyou so much.

Make this place a priority on your itinerary. But make sure you have a good safe and not particularly large car: the roads are narrow and often single file with passing spots. Never be in a hurry here!

Absolutely perfect stay! The room is cozy (the bed was the best we’ve slept in on our trip), the staff is incredibly friendly and the location is beautiful! So relaxing! Highly recommend staying for at least two nights!

The location is great, about a 30min beautiful drive from Portree. We ended up exploring the northwest of the island and loved it the most, just a short drive north of Monkstadt!

What a gorgeous place, wish we could stay another full week just in our rooms, the common area and wandering the property. Food, location, views, atmosphere, decor, textiles just perfect. The baths such a treat. Proprietors are warm and accommodating but not overbearing. Conveniently located for some of the best walks on Skye. We loved our stay so very much.

We are so glad that we picked The Monkstadt Inn as our accommodations for our elopement in the Quiraing. We couldn’t have asked for a more picturesque location complete with all of the comforts of home and amazing hospitality. The staff went out of their way to help make our stay very special!

This is a great location to stay if you are interested in activities that are at the north end of Skye or planning to take the ferry to visit other Isles. The Uig ferry terminal is only a few minutes away. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking!

A truly beautiful historic lodge in an unbelievably picturesque setting. The sheer beauty of our surroundings was simply breathtaking, and the lodge has every comfort and amenity one could ask for. I would absolutely love to return to Monkstadt in the future.

The locations is beautiful. The property outstanding! The food is delicious, the best we had while in the UK! The staff very kind!

We had limited time in the area so I can't speak to all of the landmarks to visit. But our luxurious stay at Monkstadt is a highlight of our visit. If you go, give a neck scratch to Henrich the resident dog. And some encouragement to Grace, our server, who was new during our stay. She did a great job!

The décor was absolutely a highlight of our stay. We stayed in a smaller room, but the charm from the space was booming with personality and flare! The small details in accommodations, guest amenities, location, and the breakfast were phenomenal. The bed was comfy and the small personal details were what made this place so very special.

Due to unforeseen circumstances we were unable to participate in any of the activities on Isle of Skye we had planned. We were absolutely devasted on missing those opportunities. Your hotel was highlight of a very long frustrating day.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Monkstadt 1745, we spent 2 great nights in 2 different rooms in this beautiful hotel. Both of the rooms were equally comfortable, furnished with a lot of care to details, and well-maintained. All of the staff members were very kind and helpful, even when we had car-related problems we were helped out immediately (even though it was in no way their responsibility helping us with our car). Breakfast and dinners we had were as good the hotel itself! We will undoubtedly advise staying in Monkstadt, and try coming back ourselves.

Hands down one of the best nights away, the 2 rooms we had was huge and over 2 levels with everything you could wish for, dinner and breakfast was excellent and cooked to perfection, and the setting of the hotel was so picturesque and staff were lovely and even assisted us with getting out the hotel in the snow as we had to get pulled out by a tractor due to an overnight snow flurry, I'll definitely be back.

We enjoyed every second of our stay. The Inn is decorated so well, it is modern and feels stepped in history at the same time. Our breakfast was perfect and so delicious. We ate both of our dinners on the island at the restaurant onsite and they were the best dinners we had our entire time in Scotland. The dining room and meals felt special and we loved not being rushed and enjoying whisky and the fireplace. The peninsula is beautiful. The roaming sheep and nearby cows are so sweet. Truly we felt like we were visiting a quiet, beautiful corner of the world. We stayed in the Lady Margaret suite and it was spacious and luxurious. We used the tub for baths twice (it is so large) and the shower was great as well. Plenty of hot water. Also liked the small fridge in the room and the full wardrobe to hang clothes and coats. We enjoyed our time here and just wish we had more than 2 nights to enjoy.

Definitely eat onsite for dinner, the meals and atmosphere are incredible! Be sure to drive/tour the peninsula, it is stunning. The walk to Duntulm Castle was great! Recommend the Skye Museum of Island Life as well. We visited the cemetery behind it as well where Flora MacDonald is buried.

A very special and very magical place. Everything, and I mean everything, was perfect. The tiny jug for the maple syrup nearly pushed me over the edge it was so dinky!

I would recommend to eat here at the lodge as the meals were exquisite, breakfast too. In regards things to see, the coast road down to Portree is beautiful and if you’re in the mood for a good drive, the fairy pools down south are fabulous.

The property and the room are absolutely lovely and I had the best sleep of my entire trip while here. The restaurant is fantastic and we highly recommend having dinner here! A wonderful hotel with excellent facilities and dining in was a real treat. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was exceptional in its style and décor. The bed was very comfortable and a peaceful good night's sleep was had.

Travelling to the hotel, take the road north out of Portree for a scenic drive round the top of the island if the weather is nice, well worth - it.

Thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Monkstadt. We arrived just in time for a quick clean up before our 7pm dinner reservation Dinner was delicious and relaxing. #1 room was really lovely! Alex was so sweet and knowledgeable with her lovely mix of European accents. We got to enjoy the bar after dinner and relax after a long day driving.

Make sure you go out and take a walk around the property. The view was stunning.

Everything about our stay exceeded our expectations. The hotel was beautiful and the staff was wonderful! Everyone went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and to help our event run smoothly. The food was delicious. I can't wait to come back!

I'd recommend reservations for every dinner, we had a hard time on nights when we wanted to do walk-ins. We'd also recommend other travelers do a boat trip if the weather allows, that was one of our favorite activities!

This was without doubt the highlight of our stay in Scotland. We booked a couple of nights on Skye and were not disappointed by the choice of hotel. The room was fantastic! Spacious, beautifully furnished, tasteful decor, lovely welcome touches and a very comfortable bed. We were travelling with out two dogs and the welcome pack for them was a lovely touch - treats, their own bowls and doggy towels to keep them happy.

The hotel location is ideal for visiting attractions in the North of the island. For those with electric cars, the rapid charger 10 minutes away in Uig makes up for there being no chargers at the hotel.

Monkstadt 1745 was so incredibly perfect we wish we'd have been able to spend all ten days of our visit to Scotland there. The room was absolutely beautiful in every regard. The bed was wonderfully comfortable; the views were lovely; the breakfast was delightful. Each member of the staff we met made us feel welcome and met our every need. If we are ever fortunate enough to travel from San Diego to Scotland again, we will definitely stay longer at Monkstadt.

Amazing amazing amazing!!!!!!! I cannot even start to describe this beautiful house! I have never ever been anywhere in the world where I have been wowed like I was here? The Lady Margaret’s room is just out of this world and not a speck of dust or mark on a wall to be seen anywhere??? The staff were just the best and so friendly and the food fantastic!!!! WOW!!!!!!!

Located in its own hill top away and secluded from anything with car definitely needed to explore nearby countryside yet this made it ever more appealing!! Pure relaxation!!!

Our time at Monkstadt was truly magical. The location was so beautiful and peaceful and Monkstadt had beautiful rooms that were extremely clean and comfortable. Fabulous hotel! We will definitely book again when we visit Skye in the future. The attention to detail was fantastic. My only feedback would be it would have been useful to have a mirror in the bedrooom so I could dry my hair while my cousin was in the shower. 2nd November 2021:

Our lodge room, Lord MacDonald, was comfortable and beautifully decorated. The staff were great, friendly and welcoming to us all (one of us is a small brown dog) A great place to stay, the self catering units look good too.

Food is good, delicious smoked salmon and porridge at breakfast get special mention, as do the risotto and scallops. The restaurant isn’t open every night. The room information folder has a good selection of walks, we did the Staffin slipway and Loch Cuithir ones. Skye is lovely off season, you can still enjoy yourself outside as long as you have the right clothing and footwear. Tasty cakes in from the honesty box shop on the road to Staffin.

We had an absolutely fabulous stay at Monkstadt. We couldn't believe how beautiful the house was -- everything was so thoughtfully finished throughout, the rooms were immaculate and all the spaces so intimate and charming, with so many small details and flourishes to make it seem truly magical. We would be delighted at the chance to return to Monkstadt again, and will recommend it to everyone who will listen to us praising it! A small note -- we especially loved the books in the room, which helped us appreciate the deep history of the house and the area! Also, Ella was a delight and we really enjoyed the company of some local islanders (from Skye and Barra) who were having dinner there that night.

We went to Duntulm castle, which was a wonderful little trip up the road and a great piece of the history of the house. We planned to go to Rubha Hunish the following day, which we'd heard so much about, but unfortunately didn't make it. Something for the next trip.
