We had such a wonderful stay. Ruth, our hero, gave us VERY helpful instructions for parking and dining. Our rooms were decorated so cozy, the beds were comfy. The bathrooms were spotless. They’re was coffee, tea, juice and snacks. Lovely Jackie met us at the door with a warm welcome. Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise. I hope to see you again. Brinkley family. USA

Lovely guest house. The host was very friendly and gave great advice about the town and the island. The Isle of Skye is beautiful. The beds were particularly comfortable … it was obvious that the mattresses were expensive purchases!
Tips:The town of Portree has become very commercialised. The local restaurants are over priced and service is very poor. Perhaps try some of the eateries around the island? … or be prepared to pay over the top for poor service. Please note, this comment is no reflection on the guest house … service here was second to none!

Thanks Ruth for a lovely stay!! Our room was wonderful and we enjoyed our 2 night stay!
Tips:This is a wonderful guesthouse in the perfect location on Isle of Skye and in Portree. We could walk to shops and restaurants and having a grocery across the street was VERY convenient! We did sights on Isle of Skye and Portree was the best middle location. Parking along the nearby residential street worked lovely but the car park down the hill was not a hardship to park in either. We recommend!

13th September 2021:
The proprietor was a jolly, friendly lady who offered us a wine or whisky to compensate for the difficulty we had finding the place and where to park - a nice gesture! Although no breakfast, the room had a good selection of items on the tea/ coffee tray. The room was compact but quite interesting with a nice sitting area in the dormer window. Parking was where we had been told it would be and not too far a walk once we had found it (one way systems etc.). The only reason I would not recommend it to others is the lack of breakfast. We ideally look for B & B but due to present circumstances were unable to find anywhere in Portree. I think most of the people we know would be looking for the same.
Tips:Due to current pandemic we were unable to find anywhere to eat in the evening (all booked) but in normal circumstances there appears to be a number of pubs / eateries. As we were on the move we didn't spend much time in Portree itself.

Superb in every way. Ruth was kind, friendly and extremely helpful - we ordered a takeaway meal and she provided cutlery and plates, which was extremely kind. The room was delightful and perfectly placed and contained many little extras including wine and cake, which made our trip perfect. We were delighted and will definitely return.
Tips:We had a trip out on a boat and watched the sea eagles take fish thrown from the boat and local seals basking on the rocks. The Scenic Skye mini bus tour took us to many wonderful places that we would have missed and Donald was a friendly and informative host. The Fairy Glen was particularly beautiful. We ate delicious meals at the Dulse and Brose, Rosedale and Antler Hotels and breakfast at Arriba, the Granary (delicious full Scottish) and then bought fresh rolls for lunch from Relish and all were all lovely. A wonderful trip, all round. Don't make the mistake of following the Sat Nav if you want to go to the bridge as it took us to the ferry and only just caught the last one through to avoid a futher 120 mile round trip to the bridge!

Location of this property is perfect, seconds from the sea. It was the perfect cozy place to come back to after a full day of driving and trekking. Ruth was most helpful with suggestions and helping us with our luggage. I wasn’t expecting breakfast but Ruth would leave snacks in our room which always kept us going until lunchtime. Ruth always seemed to be on hand when you needed her. I would definitely stay here again. There is no parking at the property but it was always easy to find parking up the road just 1 minute walk away.
Tips:The Rosedale Scottish tapas was delicious, the place doesn’t look much from the outside but once inside you will no be disappointed. We had a great dinner at The Bosville, quite expensive but worth it for a treat. There is so much to see on the island, I suggest you make a list from google, set a route and get driving!

Owner Response:Hello Dianne, thank you for your review. I'm sorry, but you must have miss-read your booking confirmation as breakfast is not included and I have re-checked it and it says clearly 'no meals included'. We don't do cooked breakfasts at Braeside. There was an option for you to purchase a generous continental breakfast bag. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip. Best wishes, Ruth

Room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated. Beds were comfortable. Communication with Ruth was outstanding. She goes above and beyond to inform you of check-in times and parking (which was not an issue. Make sure to read her e-mails!). Even though this is a self-catoring establishment, Ruth offers (for £5.00 per person) a generous continental breakfast bag. This was great for us for we only had 1 day to explore Skye and didn't want to be tied to a breakfast schedule. There was enough food in the bag to have snacks throughout the day. We would definietly recommend and stay here again.

Lovely quirky and simple guest house. Great for a one night stay in Portree as location is excellent and bed is comfortable. Only negative comments would be regarding the shower room (Room 1) was very dated, a lot of mould in the shower on roof also television was located in an awkward position on wall. Apart from that lovely guest house for a one night stay.
Tips:Walk to the harbour is lovely, with beautiful seafood restaurants and cafes. We enjoyed a delicious dinner in the The Lower Deck restaurant and a delicious breakfast in Cafe Arriba. Portree has many little gift shops so well worth a walk round town to explore all it has to offer.

You can easily walk to restaurants, bars, etc. We loved the location and easy access in/out of town to visit other attractions and hiking trails.

Tips:Arriving back in Portree late (20:30), to find most restraints full or w closed kitchens, we had an excellent Indian meal just down from the Braeside, which was open until 23:30... excellent food and friendly staff. Ruth provided us a very nice drive route to better see the island.

Tips:Get out & drive the northern end to see Kilt Rock, Museum of Island life,Steyne skins tannery & shop. Lunch at the quaint Stein Hotel before driving to Neist Lighthouse (walk from parking lot to see dramatic scenery, lighthouse is behind a steep headland not visible from road). Beautiful and lovely arranged bedroom. The noise of the air condition system across from the pub was nerving during the night. The breakfast was quite good and the proprietor was very friendly and funny. The worst thing is the parking situation. I think guests would appreciate if they could get a parking space near by the B&B
Tips:The pub beside the B&B is nice but whiskies are a Little bit to expensive. If you want to have good seafood you have to visit the Restaurant Sea Breaze at the port. ( The whisky after a good dinner costs half)

If you arrive in a car via A855, turn left at Somerled Square street, at the end of that short street, turn left again to the street of the same name. A hundred feet uphill, make the first right turn at York drive. Now find yourself a parking space on the right as you approach the intersection of Cnoc Na Gaoithe, closer the better. Then Braeside B&B is on your left as you walk down that Cnoc Na Gaoithe Lane slope, in the same direction of that one way street. Good luck!

The Braeside was a wonderful experience and accomodated our daily needs. Our room and large en suite were well-appointed and clean. The owner, Ruth, is meticulous and on top of everything. We had 9 AM appointments on 2 of the 3 days we were on the island and Ruth would pack fabulous lunches for us in place of her terrific full-Scottish breakfasts (served at 8:30 AM). Ruth was also terrific in helping us confirm appointments and with directions. The location is near at least 10 restaurants and other stores and banks (which you may need because Ruth does not accept credit cards).
