The two hosts are fantastic and very friendly. Both Mary taking care of all the details and her husband, a great chef, preparing us exquisite breakfasts. You can see that they are professionals in the world of hospitality, since the room with perfect sheets, clean and very comfortable. The towels in the bathroom, the amenities in the toilet. Everything was a 5 star service. The price you pay is worth the quality you receive. It was a great stay. I will be back soon.

This was a wonderful stay. The accommodations were spotless, the breakfast was yummy and the care and attention the proprietor offers is equivalent to a five star hotel concierge. I look forward to coming back.

Tips:

Close proximity to small town and castle. Good local food offerings nearby. We used as base for our Isle of Skye days in our trip and it was perfect. A bit of a drive but easy and fun.

Beautiful B&B in a lovely location. Mary is so friendly and welcoming. The room was very comfortable and tastefully decorated with an added bonus of a balcony to enjoy the fantastic scenery. There was an extensive choice of breakfast options. We opted for continental and were delighted with our choice. Mary had an excellent understanding of my wife’s Coeliac needs and this was well catered for.

Tips:

Book early if eating out. The Clachan had good food, great atmosphere and the staff were excellent.

Mary is a great host! She really wants her guests to have a wonderful stay. We definitely had. The superking bedroom was great. And the bathroom even greater. The communication by mail was super. And breakfast what she and her husband served were fantastic with a lot of local and selfmade products. Location is also fantastic. You can leave the car at the house and walk up to Eileen Dolan Castle. We would defenitely come back to stay here.

Tips:

You can leave the car at the house and walk up to Eileen Dolan Castle. Fun is to do the walk late in de evening. Castle is closed but still you can go and have a walk over the grounds. With a bright moon it is magnificent.

My wife and I had a fabulous two night stay in Ground Room 4. Not having had much previous experience with B&B style accommodations from previous travels, we found Eilean A Cheo online and made our booking based on some of the reviews on Google. The room and facilities were great, a very comfortable room with views (from bed) of the hills behind the house in a quiet part of Dornie. A very generously sized and warm room with sitting area in addition to what appeared to be a recently renovated bathroom. The breakfasts were amazing (highly recommended the smoked salmon/scrambled egg if on offer!), with a view overlooking Eilean Donan Castle, a great way to start each day before setting off exploring the Isle of Skye. Mary is a fantastic host; friendly and approachable for recommendations and tips for local eateries and landmarks. Communications in the lead up to the stay was also helpful noting how busy the area was at this time of year. Highly recommended and look forward to hopefully returning again in the future.

Fabulous location - extraordinary view of Loch, castle, and mountains; glorious dawn & sunset. Walking distance to town & castle, easy access from road, easy parking next to the guest house. Beautiful guest house, absolutely spotless, with modern yet charming features throughout. Beds are very comfortable, nice sheets, luxurious towels. Host could not be more welcoming, well-organized, and thoughtful. She listened to our priorities/preferences for touring the region, gave great & timely advice (I can't overstate the quality and value of this advice for making the most of the visit), helped anticipate barriers (e.g. early booking for dinner at the excellent Clanach pub in town), and offered outstanding breakfast with a variety of options that made us and our moms very happy.

Tips:

This guest house is a great base for exploring the immediate area and Isle of Skye - distances among these aren't a barrier, and the setting of this guest house is extraordinary.

Lovely B&B with balcony views of castle and loch. Decor wonderful with Harris tweed accents, dining room for breakfast cheerful, and the food: all freshly prepared, local sources, top quality. Special breakfast of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was the best we had on our whole trip. Host was very helpful in making sure we were set in transport and dining plans. Highly recommend this B&B! Walk to castle which is one of the best, bus, village, and a country walk along shore of loch for wildflowers, birds, exploring.

Tips:

We did not have a car. Taxis need planning. The walk to castle, village and shop walk are easy, no hills, but if bad weather would be challenge. Perfect small pizza, bakery, small gin distillery and pottery shop right up the road and in bright creative buildings. Pub in village had good food, service everywhere was friendly, we even got a lift home from waitress one night. A beautiful spot to rest, explore, visit in a magical part of Scotland. Hosts are exceptional.

Stayed here once 10 years ago and again yeaterday. Both stays were fantastic. The host (Mary) is thoughtful and welcoming, and the rooms were comfortable. Mary made sure we had dinner booked on arrival (she also helped move the reservation when we showed up late), and there were chocolates waiting for us in the room. The room was clean and well kept. English below: Bijzonder tevreden over het geheel. Heel vriendelijke ontvangst, heel behulpzaam. Absoluut aanbevelenswaardig. Very satisfied with the whole. Very friendly welcome, very helpful. The hostess starts herself about dinner reservation and calls for places in a restaurant, if you wish. (Two excellent restaurants are close by, but reservations are needed). We had room 4, a nice, spacious, clean and quiet room with bathroom on the ground floor. Excellent breakfast. Good wifi. Free parking in front of or next to the house. By car you are within a few minutes on the Isle of Skye. Port of Portree: approx. 60 minutes. Absolutely recommendable.

We found this amazing guest house when I had trouble locating a place to stay on Skye and I’m really glad we did! This little town of Dornie near the castle was lovely. Mary, our host, was delightful, her home was perfection, her welcoming charm delights, and her breakfast was simply the best I have ever had. I wish we had more than one night there but I definitely hope to return on another trip to Scotland. One of the best places I’ve ever stayed.

18th July 2022:

We had a lovely two night stay at the Eilean A Cheo Guest House. The location was great as we were able to explore the Isle of Skye with minimal travel time. The house was clean, quiet, roomy enough to store our luggage and the bed was quite comfortable. Mary was such a nice and personable host. Breakfast was delicious and there were several options to chose from, so we were able to enjoy a variety over our two days. We enjoyed her conversation in the morning and valued her advice on some places to see. We definitely would recommend this B&B and hope to return for a longer visit.

Tips:

Tip #1: The town of Dornie is rather small, with limited dining options. Really just one option, the Clachan Bar. Mary had suggested this place and even booked dinner reservations for us in advance. We were very fortunate she did this because we witnessed many patrons turned away who did not have reservations. The food, drinks and desserts were all very good. It is an easy 10-15 minute walk from the Guest House. Tip #2: To save ourselves time from stopping and searching for a restaurant while exploring the Isle of Skye, Mary put together a little picnic lunch for us, including a sandwich, chips, fruit, granola bar and water. We picked it up at breakfast and we sere set for the day.

21st September 2020:

We had a lovely stay at Eileen a Cheo. The location is good, right near the Eileen Donan Castle which is a marvelous sight. The room was very clean. We were given everything we needed, and were left a bag outside the door half way through our stay with towels, toilet paper and tea/coffee/biscuits to replenish. The facilities were good and we had everything we needed. Albeit the shower was a little weak but makes no odds to us really. For breakfast, we had a table in the room, and it was delivered to us between 8 and 9 outside the room, and we ordered the night before by email. The waffles are absolutely stunning!! We only met Mary and she was so lovely. Very accomodating, and very conscious and respectful of being safe with regards to keeping distance and making sure that we felt safe. We were leaving very early on check out day so we were unable to get our breakfast, but Mary made sure we had a little packed breakfast with some croissants, butter, jam, tea and coffee to take with us on the road. The value of this B&B is well worth it. Thoroughly enjoyed :)

Tips:

Pizza Jo and the Bakery is literally right down the road, a 2 minute walk from the B&B, and has delicious food and the place itself is so charming, with a wee fairy tale walk and even a little gin shack. Obviously, you have the Eileen Donan Castle which you can see right from the B&B. Amazing view to wake up to every morning. You're not far from Plockton which is a nice seaside village with activities like kayaking and seal tours. Then you have Isle of Skye which is just across the bridge. Plenty of things to do here. You have the fairy pools, the storr, kilt rock and many munros for climbing if you're into that kind of thing. We climbed Bla Bheinn which is situated over a gorgeous loch. It's a challenging hike, but well worth the views at the top. We did a sea wildlife tour in Portree with Stardust Boat Trips. This was absolutely amazing, and we were so lucky that we saw hundreds of dolphins, doing tricks around our boats. Also lots of seals and a golden eagle in the far distance. Neist Point lighthouse was also very scenic. All these places are amazing and so pretty, but there is a lot of driving involved to reach these destinations. For us it was completely worth it. Have fallen in love with this place completely.

Probably one of my favorite B&Bs during my entire 16 day holiday! Mary is the quintessential Scottish hostess - kind, generous, helpful ... completely endearing. Her breakfast was so good, that I would book this location just to have the meal, cooked by her chef husband!! Needing a second night in the area, Mary went above and beyond by calling around for me ... and found another place to stay for the second evening. She is a jewel!

My friend and I have travelled extensively. And I've worked in the holiday industry. This is by far the best B&B we've ever stayed in. Maybe hard to believe but everything is perfect.

Tips:

The most photographed castle nearby is worth a visit. Over the bridge,on the left the local pub is cosey, nearby to that the hotel has fabulous food. And Manuela's nearby in the same road (hobbit house) great pizzas and cake!

Delightful welcome by the lovely owner Mary. You can immediately feel how dedicated she is to make her guests feel at ease and she is always happy to offer tips and information about the area. The bedroom at the back of the house is absolutely lovely, very clean and very nicely decorated, very quite and the bedding is very comfortable. The nice ensuite bathroom was exceptionally clean. I would also like to comment on how we appreciated the breakfast proposed. I very much enjoyed the scottish breakfast and my husband loved the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. We would definitely stay again if we are lucky enough to be back in the area.

Eileen A. Cheo was, by far, our favorite place we stayed while in Scotland. The information online does not even come close to describing how truly great this place is. The home is lovely and so inviting with a loch view and the castle just a short distance away. The hosts are AMAZING, going out of their way to make you feel welcome, giving excellent advise on nearby restaurants and itinerary suggestions to avoid crowds. The breakfast was the best we’ve ever had at a B&B anywhere. My husband is still raving about the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs; my eggs Benedict was amazing as well! Many thanks to Mary and her family for a wonderful stay. We are already planning a trip to visit again soon!

Just ask Mary, the host. She is a wealth of information and will never steer you wrong!

The only reason I gave a 4/5 on facilities and service was due to the fact that I didn't use much or see many people due to arriving late and leaving early. First guest house I have stayed in for many a year and it was brilliant, so would highly recommend. The landlady, if that is the right term, was great. Great view out of the bedroom window.

Mary and her husband are perfect hosts!! The night we arrived she made reservations for us to eat at the pub because the hotel in town was booked full and she knew the pub would be busy too. She gave us tips on where to go and the breakfasts every day were amazing. The location is excellent with a view of the beautiful Eilean Donan castle right there and sweet lambs across the street. If I could give more than five stars I would. We had a first class experience at Eilean a Cheo and I would highly recommend starting here when travelling to the Isle of Skye! Many thanks to Mary and her husband!

Tips:

Our stay was simply fantastic. From the warm welcome that Mary gave us as we checked in, to our room, to the care and attention we were given at breakfast, culminating in a sincere and heartfelt goodbye at the end of our stay. This all made our stay at Eilean A Cheo one of the most memorable and delightful experiences of our holiday (only coming second after our engagement!) We could not recommend a stay here hard enough, and we hope to be back again one day. - Michael and Fiona

Tips:

Our best piece of advice would be, if you had made the wise choice to stay at Eilean A Cheo, is ask Mary! Her extensive local knowledge means that no matter what kind of outing it is you are looking for, Mary knows the perfect place for you to find it and can even make you a booking or organise your transport. The location of the guest house is excellent, being very close to the shoreline and 10 minutes walk from the castle. The bedroom and the breakfast room were absolutely clean. The bedroom was very nice with a beautiful view to the loch and to the castle. Mary is a perfect lady of the house. She is kind and nice. She is always available to help her guests with information, suggestions and tips about what is possible to do there around. An excellent breakfast is served every morning. Both continental and Scottish breakfasts are available. Absolutely recommendable to all travellers!

Tips:

As the area is normally very busy during summer, it is useful to know that dinner in the village is last sitting at 8.45 pm. There are two places within walking distance from the house the Clachan Bar and the Dornie Hotel.

Myself my wife and our two daughters (18 and 12) stayed for a couple of nights in June 2017. We enjoyed it very much. Lovely location with a great view and a delicious traditional breakfasts. The town across the bridge and the picturesque castle are short walks away and there is an easy drive to the Isle of Skye.

Tips:

The reasons for being here are obvious, but when I go back I will be sure to stay at least 3 nights so that I can have a day for a castle visit and a day for landscapes. A good idea would be to call ahead and see if there are any events that are planned during your stay to coordinate with. it seemed that there was more going on than I would have thought. Also if you want to see a distillery get your tickets before showing up. Although this makes it seem like a busy place, it is not. This is a very calm place and after sundown gets pretty sleepy overall.

Eilean A Cheo Guest House is a very charming B&B, with well accommodated rooms, very cosy, well decorated together with the common areas; the ambiance is cosy, warm. The breakfast is made by Raymond, Mary's husband, however you will never saw him! Mary takes your order for the breakfast, and you feel like if you were at a very good restaurant: Raymond cooks super well, and pay attention to decorate your plate with comestible flowers. A lot of what you eat is homemade: yogurt, jam, bread. Mary is paying attention to her guests, worrying if they are on delay: will they have time to have diner? have they had an accident she is worrying?

Tips:

Mary will recommend the pub Clachan, in Dornie: we tested it and the food was very very good, together with a friendly service

As always fantastic. My husband and I are treated just like one of the family which is just what you would expect from a family home running a B&B. You are made to feel very welcome and nothing is too much trouble. we love staying at Eilean A Cheo Guest House, we cannot wait to be there again. 5***

Tips:

Located in a lovely position for getting out and about. Shop, pubs (include serving good food) just a short walk away. Absolutely beautiful views, breathtaking area to stay. Would recommend to all travellers to stop if they are passing through.

This is the best B&B we've ever stayed in. The landlady is very friendly in a good way and has set the highest standards. The breakfast is brilliant in every detail, room, ingredients and service. The bed we had was huge and very comfortable. The room was lovely with a great en-suite. Large TV in room and Wi-Fi were appreciated. Other B&B folks should come here under cover and learn how it's done.

It was a shame we spent only one night there. Everything was wonderful. Our rooms were fantastic, comfortable and cosy, very clean, new and beautiful. We even had views to the Eilean Donan Castle. Breakfast was amazing. We had freshly cooked breakfast (scramble eggs with salmon!) and homemade yoghurt and marmalades. Mary was lovely. She was very helpful. As we are Spanish, she warned us about the hours for dinner and offer to book a table for us in the pub or the hotel in Dornie. She also gave us good advice about what to do the following day and how to get our next destination not tracking back.

I don't even know where to start with my review of this amazing guest house. With a chef in the kitchen the food was unbeatable. The proprietress was friendly and helpful. The facilities were clean and very comfortable. I took a video of the view ---from the bathroom window! The view from the bedroom was the same, of the loch, the hills, and the castle. Amazing. We arrived from Inverness via glens with stunning scenery and found the location extremely convenient for our visit on the Isle of Skye.

Tips:

Per the proprietor's suggestion, we ate at Crachan Bar -- spectacular chef-made seafood of many varieties with daily specials. Be sure to stop into the Schoolhouse art gallery and have tea and a chat with Mary and Rhoda. Don't miss a visit with Maneula at Manuela's Wee Bakery. You will find her baked goods at the local grocer, local eating establishments and at her shop in Ardelve.

The location was ideal for reaching the Five Sisters mountain range and the Saddle or local hills for walking or touring Skye and the Cullins. Our breakfast was well cooked and provided a good start to the day. Mary had plenty of information about the area if required. The room was clean and had great views over the Loch to the castle.

Tips:

Skye boat trips to see the wildlife from Eligol and touring round the Waternish peninsula and round the coastal areas. Great mountains to walk or climb, the Red and Black Cullins. Art galleries with cafes are great value for money and Skye has plenty of good restaurants and cafes.

We enjoyed our stay very much, this B+B was an excellent and picturesque base for the castle and visiting Skye. The accomodation was clean and warm, the breakfast was generous and considerate of all our needs and preferences.

Tips:

The castle is a must see, the pub in Dornie is a lovely walk away with excellent food and a friendly atmosphere. Skye is a short drive away and is also a must see, we managed to fit in Dunvegan castle, the old man of stor and the kilt falls plus others along the way. We also ate at the plockton shores restaurant which was lovely too. Everything we did/saw well worth it.

Mary was so friendly and helpful. Everything was lovely. The breakfast was superb. The view from my room, of the castle, was just what I had hoped it would be. My room was delightful. A warm, clean, quiet and friendly place to stay. I will stay here on my next visit! Thank you to Mary and family for opening their home and making me feel so welcome.

Tips:

Obviously see the castle both inside and out. View the castle from different spots along the way, at various times of the day - as it changes and has many faces. I also highly recommend the lookout above Dornie village. I hiked it, but many drive. Make sure you keep going until you find 'the gate' and walk across the hilly out crop. The view is majestic and the feeling quite magical.

We spent two nights here because of the proximity to Isle of Skye and the reasonable rates. Mary is a wonderful hostess. The accommodations were extremely nice and updated and the homemade breakfast was the best I had out of the seven B&Bs we stayed in during eight days in Scotland. Mary offers delicious baked items - croissants, scones and bread; awesome fresh homemade yogurt; perfect porridge and well-prepared fresh cooked items. I would definitely stay at Eilean A Cheo Guest House again.

Tips:

You can easily walk to the Clachan Bar in Dornie and have libations and a wonderful dinner. The fish and chips and elk sausages were excellent. In addition, the desserts were outstanding! It is a cozy and friendly establishment. On the way to the Clachan Bar you get a wonderful view of Eilean Donan Castle and can also walk there for a tour.

The folk who run this house were exceptionally friendly and very helpful. They offered suggestions for sites to see, and when, also helping book dinner reservations at area establishments. We had a tire blowout and they helped us locate a garage for repairs. The rooms were very nice, and the breakfasts were excellent, tailored to our request.

Tips:

Plockton Shores or Plockton Hotel are both great for dinner, especially seafood. Both are located a short drive away in Plockton. Saucy Mary's is a pub/restaurant just over the Skye Bridge in Kyleakin, low key but prompt friendly service, and the food was very good. Eileen Donan Castle is a nice spot, great photo's if you go after sunset.

26th July 2013:

A quintessential B&B - it's someone's house, you get a bed, and breakfast the next morning. In that sense, it's no frills with no facilities. That said, this B&B does a fantastic job in providing what one can, and should, reasonably expect from such an establishment. The rooms were very comfortable, breakfast ample and tasty, and the owner warm and friendly. There's free wireless internet too. All in, our stay was very comfortable and we felt extremely welcomed. I would highly recommend this fine establishment. I'm neutral about the location because that depends on your itinerary. For our purposes, it was great as we had planned to visit the nearby castle. It could possibly be a little out of the way if you're going somewhere else.

Tips:

Visit the pretty castle nearby. It has a great mock-up of how a castle kitchen would have looked like in the 1920s. Having blazed through 3 seasons of Downton Abbey, it was great seeing the mock-up and have an idea of how staff members would have worked back then. In fact, my wife and I found that (the kitchen) the most interesting part of the tour. :)

Mary was the perfect hostess and Raymond the perfect chef. This was the 2nd time stay with Mary&Raymond & loved the stay just as much as the 1st time. Lovely home from home house, family run and you do feel very welcome. Would recommend without hesitation. 5 star for Eilean A Cheo Guest House.

Tips:

Fantastic spot with everything you need around you. Can all be reached in a 5, 10, or 15 min walk. What more could you want. Go and find out for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

Splendid welcome. Not least the tantalizing aromas from the kitchen. The "eco" approach is sensible and much appreciated. Doing things "online" works for me. The decor is very original. You have very good taste. Don't get tired of doing the sculptures with the towels. Being a connoisseur of porridge, I can safely say I've never tasted porridge so good and just the right quantity. What is the secret?

Tips:

Try the chicken on the bed of haggis at the local inn. If the sun is shining take the road to Applecross and beyond.
