Beautiful location overlooking part of Lochalsh and occupying a spectacular shore side location & amid the Glenshiel mountains, off the main road and in an exclusive setting overlooking the Five Sisters of Kintail. An ideal area to spot roe deer and otters, Otter Hide, the setting for Ring of Bright Water, is only 7 miles. Eilean Donan Castle is within 2 miles. Isle of Skye bridge, 8 miles & Plockton a 15 minute drive. The water outside the Cottage is tidal so you never know what view you are going to wake to, either a dry beach where you can take a stroll along or tide in where you can launch your own small boat or canoe.

Lovely well equipped modern bungalow in peaceful location. Delightful, helpful hosts. Central heating was a but puzzling!

A good centre for short, sharp cycle rides. Excellent shop at Balmacara, lovely bakery in next village, well equipped kitchen so self catering was a easy.

Perfect accommodation. Must declare an interest as Lisa is a friend from way back. Disappointed to hear that the arrival treats were normal and not special for us. David and Lisa around as local experts in their B&B 1 minute walk away from the cottage . Loved the wall sized OS map in the B&B and all local OS maps and walking guides in the cottage. Brill.

Tips:

Skye gorgeous. Boat trip from Elgol and walk round lake in the Cuillin mountains was great. Applecross circuit also highly recommended. Perfect place for gentle walks and serous scrambles!

You are correct in your assertion that the cottage has high standards. We had a very enjoyable stay. The eggs and cake were most welcome on arrival. I hope Griff found his way home on Friday.

Tips:

We cooked for ourselves every night bar one when we went to Pizza Jo. Manuela's Bakery is great for bread and the Kyle Co-Op is well stocked and served our needs adequately.

Location was perfect for our needs. Recommended walks where good and also easy to access. David and Lisa where extremely welcoming and helpful. There was a lovely welcoming package on our arrival. The cottage was very clean and equipped for all our needs. Overall a fantastic week away in a great place.

Tips:

Drive to Applecross is a must if you are a confident driver to make the journey, stop at Applecross Inn for lunch, very good and value for money. Plockton is a nice little retreat, not done the boat trip yet, but has been recommended. Skye is a must see, the scenery is breathtaking over the Qurrang. Neist point is a great walk and breathtaking scenery.

Many thanks for your friendly hospitality. Cakes and eggs delicious! MUCH better with heating off, even in the cooler 2 weeks that we had. A tea cosy would be useful and so would a potato masher (but Jean is an old fashioned cook!). The large scale OS maps were useful. We are still mystified by the "wash basin". Is it supposed to hold water? What is the porcelain plug thing for? Cleaning teeth over it was a pot luck experience - bend forward and your head hits the tap and turns it off or scalds you! I know you can't easily change it and I presume it was a daft idea of the previous owners but if we are missing something, please tell us for next time!! Thanks again, best wishes to you both and to Griff. Good luck to your son for re-sit Maths.

The best hosts you could probably have, a wonderful place with every facility that you would need while away, it's like a home away from home. The surrounding area is beautiful and varied.

Tips:

The pubs in Donnie serve great food, the seafood restaurant in the Kyle of lochalsh is one of the best we have eaten in. There are a number of wonderfully varied castles in the area and on the Isle of Skye itself. Kilt rock and the Old Man of Storr and surrounding area are beautiful places to visit. Try and give everything ago there is enough for everyone to find something they enjoy. Most of all relax and enjoy yourself.

We spent a wonderful week at Shingle Bay Cottage at the end of August. What a place! Lisa and David were wonderful hosts and we were made extremely welcome by them both. Everything in the cottage was explained to us personally by them and they also supplied us a homemade ginger cake, fresh eggs and a bottle of wine, very thoughtful. The cottage is spotlessly clean and equipped to a very high standard. The location is excellent for touring the highlands and Skye. Most of all the setting of Shingle Bay cottage is idyllic, so peaceful with stunning scenery everywhere you looked and only a short walk from the cottage to the loch. Thank you Lisa and David for making our stay so memorable and loaning us for wellies to go across the loch to the “secret beach”. We would recommend this stunning cottage and hope to return

David is a great host. Gave us lots of info on what to visit. For welcome, we found some eggs and a bottle of wine. Cake came later in the afternoon. We took the recipe home and it is our favourite bake now. He has a big map of skye in the B&B. It is worthwhile to go there and have him give you some tips.

Tips:

Great place to stay. Don't only focus on visiting the obvious attractions on the lovely island of Skye. There is plenty to see on the mainland also. Plockton Inn has great food and a nice terrace by the beach. Also worthwhile visiting the Attadale gardens and then move over the cattle pass to visit apple cross. Very nice pub there also. Spend a nice afternoon at the beach there.

Lots of useful information supplied in the cottage, including an extensive selection of ideas and instructions for good walks. We couldn't find anything which wasn't perfect!

Shingle Bay is a perfectly equipped and comfortable place to relax and unwind. It is situated on the edge of Lochalsh across which you can walk at low tide and explore the rocky islands. It is perfectly positioned to travel around the western highlands and Skye and a joy to return to at the end of the day. Lisa and David are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Perfect hosts in fact. There is so much in the area to see and do, and Lisa and David made many recommendations; we enjoyed visiting the otter hide at Kylerhea and dinner at the Plockton Inn. But as avid fossil hunters the highlight for us was a trip to the dinosaur beaches and museum at the very north of Skye, followed by lunch at the delightfully positioned Flodigarry hotel where we sat outside and ate Cullen Skink while admiring the view and the perfect peace. A wonderful holiday.

Tips:

Good Spar supermarket within a mile and good pub serving food two miles in the other direction. The cottage feels as if you are miles from everything but it isn't! Very friendly and welcoming hosts. Having the owners close by might be a bit off putting for some people ie those seeking to enjoy the peace and quiet of the lochside without interruption. The photos on the website gave the impression that Shinglebay cottage had more of a view of the water whereas in reality it was Seadrift B&B that had the better location.

Tips:

The city link bus service along the A87 was good. A day return from Nostie (road end) to Portree on Skye made a lovely day out and was £13.50 per adult. A 20 minute drive to Plockton, a must to enjoy this pretty conservation village and take an hour boat trip with Callum to see the Seals. Walk a short way to enjoy the Coral Beach - beautiful.

Superb in all respects! we are delighted that we have found you and we will be back! Everything perfect - thank you.

Tips:

Plockton Shores and Red Skye restaurants excellent. We used the excellent kitchen for the other five nights after long days climbing Munros!
