19th February 2024:

Very helpful, informative and friendly welcome - which we appreciated. Flexibility over arrival time also a real bonus, allowing us to arrive, unload and appreciate the local surroundings in daylight. Cottage well provisioned with maps, books about Skye, and other things to read/watch on any wet days or long evenings.

Tips:

Great local walks from the cottage. Enjoyed the quiet season tour of the distillery (10 mins walk away) and great cafe on site. 5 mins away in car, community cafe/shop also well worth a visit. Excellent view from cottage, especially from the main room.

We absolutely loved our stay here. What a spectacular place with incredible views. Everything about the house is perfect. The kitchen was the best I have seen in a rental and equipped with everything you need. Even the knives were sharp! The log burner was great for the wild winter evenings with a very generous supply of wood. Would 100% recommend.

Tips:

The location is incredible for exploring the sleat peninsula. We did the recommended local walks, the cheese hill at the back of the property was incredibly rewarding for such a small hike. Slightly further afield we walked to Sleat Point and also did the Leitir Fura walk, both offering incredible views of Skye and the mainland. We had great lunches at An Crùbh and Deli Gasta cafés.

26th August 2023:

Visiting An Nead was a very positive experience as Steve and Lesley made all of the booking and directions and instructions very easy - which is just what you want after a long drive. The cabin is beautifully designed, comfortable with great attention to detail - it was incredibly warm even without the fire. And of course, the very best bit of all were the views from the panoramic windows - stunning to look at no matter what the weather .

Tips:

Get the best weather app that you can and plan your day around it as best you can - to make the very best of your time at An Nead and Skye. The short walks up Cheese Hill and down to the bay are good fill in's on wet days. The trip to the Otter Sanctuary is a must ( even if you don't get to see an Otter ) - the single track road is exciting and with the most glorious views.I cooked at An Nead for the entire week as there was a very good supply of local ingredients from shops and it was a lovely kitchen to cook in.

Stunning accommodation in a great location. There is nothing about An Nead that I can suggest to improve it. Everything we wanted was available and everything provided was to a high standard. The bed was really comfortable. The internet connection was fast so easy to make use of streaming services on the smart tv. And the log burner kept the place lovely and warm. 5 stars

Tips:

Just drive and be prepared to stop as the views are amazing

An Nead was a fantastic place to stay, ever little detail had been thought of and the owners were very helpful with tips on nearby places to visit. It was a delight to return back to the cosy bungalow every evening and get the log burner going. The views over the bay below were phenomenal.

Tips:

The walk to the point of Sleat was stunning. We also enjoyed a break from driving around the island with a walk down the road (10 mins) for a tour at the local whisky distillery.

Another great stay at An Nead. Once again Steve & Lesley were welcoming hosts with a nice little welcome goodie package as well as checking we got settled in okay. An Nead is a beautiful place to stay with stunning views and plenty to do in the environs. The accommodation is always clean, comfy and a great "home from home".

Tips:

The Harbour Restaurant in Broadford is a must for a brilliant meal. We also did a sea wildlife cruise from Portree and saw Dolphins, Sea Eagles & seals. The Ord Loop road is another place with stunning bays on the way round (although it is a single track road & not for the fainthearted in some places!!). Last year we had a great meal at the Toravaig Hotel (although not open for hot meals this year). If you are on Skye before 5th October 2022 check out artist Derek Robertson's exhibition at Gallery An Talla Dearg.

An Nead is exceptionally clean and very well equipped. It is very tastefully decorated and comfortable. There are stunning views from the living room and bedroom. Situated on the Seat peninsular, it is a great base for exploring the whole island and making trips to the mainland. Hosts Lesley and Steve are very welcoming and knowledgeable, offering a wealth of advice and tips.

Tips:

Plenty to see locally, as well as the famous tourist sites. The general store at Armadale is excellent.

Excellent and helpful communications prior to stay. Friendly, accessible and helpful during stay. Superb comfortable accommodation, very well considered and furnished. A lovely home feeling to return to each day.

Tips:

Take time to travel the Isle road network and see as much of the diverse environment as possible. No need to rush anywhere and always be polite and considerate to the locals who are very approachable and happy to chat. The Skye bridge is fantastic to link the nearby mainland with further adventure locations. Scenery to rival anywhere.

Fabulous accommodation in an unbeatable location. An Nead is a beautifully put together home from home with all the comforts and facilities you could wish for with stunning views through picture windows in every direction.

Tips:

Follow Steve’s tips and ideas for exploring the island, rent bikes, take ferry cruises, go for long walks, visit distilleries, especially the one in Raasay, or relax in comfort by the log burner at An Nead and watch the changing skies.

This Beautiful Place aptly called An Nead (The Nest) is just truly that . A fantastically put together product made from Natural timbers to Tiling , from furnishings to the top class bed , bedding and linen. We only had four nights here, arrived in the dark ,with wintry wet weather, and to turn the key and enter into such a warm and welcoming home . We woke up the following morning to views that are just as Panoramic in the winter as they would be in Summertime, just tremendous , as were our Hosts ,Steve and Lesley , thank you both very much ! ! Billy & Cathie

Tips:

Try and keep your eye on the roads whilst driving , it’s difficult as the scenery draws you away , and this said from a Lewisman !!😃

6th September 2021:

Although located at the Eastern tip of Skye, An Nead offers easy access to plenty of Skye attractions, including Armadale caste and gardens, and the Eastern side of the Cuillins. For those interested in the ferry from Mallaig, the place is located comfortably nearby. Nice dining opportunities are also available within short driving distance. The views over the sea and the Scottish mainland are lovely. The photos posted on the website are a full match, with An Nead actually being larger than what the photos may seem to show! The house is very clean and fully furnished: a very comfortable place to stay in on a grey and rainy day, and splendidly insulated so as to make it a pleasure to step in after a day out in the cold - whenever rain does not prevent one to get out.

Tips:

Walking nearby: the 29km loop to Tarskavaig / Ord requires walking along a secondary single track road but is a very quiet and comfortable option in between days of more challenging walks; the path from Elgol to the beach at Camasunary offers splendid views of the Eastern side of the Black Cuillin - on a sunny day at least, but some may find it relatively “airy” at times; the loop to the deserted villages of Suisnish and Boreraig - however sad - also offers quite a long stretch of moorland to enjoy; climbing the Dun Caan on Raasay is not that difficult - the path zigzags appropriately - and the views are nice. Other attractions: between the lovely castles of Dunvegan and Armadale, and if ever a choice must be made, we would opt for Armadale - despite the castle being a ruin: the ticket includes an interesting museum of the Isles and a garden with a few gigantic trees. But Dunvegan prides itself of being the longest uninterruptedly inhabited residence in the country. Choice may indeed be hard; the Old Man of Storr may seem excessively touristic a place to visit but the place is indeed spectacular - more so than the Quiraing, perhaps - and, on a sunny day, the view of the coastline is gorgeous.

Fantastic accomodation , finished to a very high standard with views that you can never tire of. Owners are extremely helpful and knowledgeable about Skye. It was the perfect base from which to roam around the island

Tips:

Owners provide really good detailed walks which we did. Beach opposite knock castle can be found by going down to the old church at the bottom of the hill on the main road. Go to the right and turn left down a lane - it’s an entrance/driveway to a few houses but if you keep left and walk for about 30 yards there is a pathway/track down to the beach. Walks - old man of storr, quiraing, point of sleat. Visit to neast point a must. Driving on single track roads can be a bit interesting !! The 16 mile round trip to torvaig and ord is great - we went via torvaig first (turn right at the bottom of the hill and turn right a mile or so at the sign to torvaig) - very winding and undulating 😁 Food - toravaig house hotel, macnamara and bothin bar, cafe sia and siaway. All great.

An Nead surpassed all our expectations - clean, comfortable, excellent facilities, and the view is almost unbelievable. Photos on the website do not do this place justice. Steve and Lesley are wonderful conscientious hosts - generous, attentive and full of recommendations. We are already dreaming about our next trip to Skye!

Tips:

The Point of Sleat walk is not to be missed - on a clear sunny day the sandy beach could really be somewhere in the Caribbean! Parking can be a bit limited so do consult on the best time of day to go. Steve's recommendation for walking up Cheese Hill (behind An Nead) to catch the sunset is really worth doing - we went up there every night.

What an amazing place, with stunning views. Was so clean and well stocked. A great base for just chilling or going out exploring.

Tips:

We visited The Fairy Pools, Kilt Rock and the dinosaur footprints at An Corran Beach. Closer by there is a nice walk to Leitir Fura with some lovely views over to the mainland. On the way back we stopped at the cafe at An Crubh for lunch, which was well worth the visit too.

Fantastic accommodation which was very well equipped. Very comfortable & cosy and the views were stunning. The weather wasn’t on our side but we made the best of it.

We had visits to Skyeskyns, Talisker Distillery, Portree, Lealt Falls, Kilt Rock and the Fairy Pools. Unfortunately the weather was too wild to walk to the Point of Sleat and Old Man of Storr.

You've thought of everything one might need. The only thing I'd change would be a dishwasher instead of a washing machine. Everything else is perfect. And so helpful and welcoming. Hope we might come back some day.

Tips:

Didn't go to a restaurant in the end, but you were right about the bakery in Mallaig. The Fairy Pools walk was busy so I'd probably avoid that in high summer. Bla Bheinn was a great walk.

Tips:

An Cruibh is brilliant amazing food and views and five minutes away by car. Sleet peninsula is very sheltered and quieter than the rest of Skye which is lovely. All of Skye is worth visiting especially Talisker distillery and take a Misty Isle boat trip. The drive to Elcol is wonderful.
