We had such a lovely stay at The Walk Up, very comfy and a lovely place to rest after exploring the wonders of Skye. A short walk to and from Portree makes it very accessible for a couple of drinks in the evening, would highly recomend.

Tips:

Everywhere we went for food in Portree was brilliant. I have to especially recomend MacKenzie's Bakery, 100% the best pastries I have ever had.

Location: it's a bit outside of Portree. If you don't mind to walk a bit, this should be no Problem. Service: Richard was a very friendly guy. We didnt need any service. So I can not really rate it.

It was the most homelike feeling we’ve experienced yet from all other places. The owner had everything you need supplied throughout the apartment. The views from the second floor were panoramic of a bucolic countryside. It was a mere 10-minute stroll to Portree centre. Since we stayed 4 days we rented a car which proved to be great- we drove, explored and hiked all around the island. The island is amazingly beautiful and this location was extremely convenient for traveling. Finally, we felt quite fortunate to meet the owner and his wife who were kind, helpful, intelligent people. I’d recommend this apartment to anyone and my husband and I are already talking about returning there!👍

Hello, it pleases both Clare and I that you enjoyed your stay. We are currently working towards our application for the new licence that our government now require. It will not make the apartment any better but will give legitimacy to our small business. You will be welcome back at any time. Kind regards, Richard.

Lovely accommodation, amazing views! Quite a long walk with luggage :)

Tips:

The entrance door indeed was a bit tricky, we studied the mechanism quite many times with the door open, but when actually trying to close / sometimes open, did not work. Instructions were quite clear on the note book, so not sure what would be the solution with this:)

Hello, it frustrates us when visitors find opening and closing a standard five-point security door difficult. These doors are standard now in the UK. We put instructions in the apartment to assist visitors with both the opening and closing of the front door and the windows. We can only hope our visitors read the instructions which are there for their benefit. In all other ways I hope you enjoyed your stay. Kind regards, Richard

We were absolutely delighted by the wonderful apartment. It had everything. Its roomy, tastefully furnished, its good equipped and is perfectly located to the City Center (just a 15min walk). We stayed 4 nights (way too less) and we loved it! Richard was good reachable for us and responded to questions very fast. As discussed Richard, we will come back, for sure!! ;o)

Tips:

This island has so much to offer...amazing wild natural beauty. Small beautiful cities and friendly people. A few tips from us: - take your time - always pack the rain jacket and hiking boots in the car - if you visit the tourist highlights - be there early; at 09:00 at the latest!

Hello. You make some valid tips. In the summers season it can be very busy. Even now in November there are still quite a lot of visitors about. Another tip I might add is, if you wish to dine out, it is imperative that you reserve a table providing the restaurant in question takes bookings. It sounds like you enjoyed your visit, and should you ever wish to return, you will be most welcome. Kind regards, Richard

23rd May 2022:

Comfortable, functional, and beautiful place to stay. We had an enjoyable couple days in Skye, and the stay at The Walk-up was a part of that. Very clean, shower 10/10, and the convection oven+microwave was great for reheating leftovers for breakfast. The Booking.com map location is accurate, but the listed address at 2 Scorrybreac on Google Maps was not quite far enough up the road. We still found the location though!

Tips:

Seaside by Brother's Point was full of interesting tide pools, cliffs, and beach landscapes. We could have spent an entire day there. Swimming in the Fairy Pools is amazing. We hiked almost all the way up, and there were some beautiful (and chilly!) places to jump in. We had tasty scallops at the Oyster Shed near Talisker. The mushroom pizza from Caberfeidh was very tasty. The West Highland Bar on Somerled Square also had these cute greenhouses outside with electricity, heating, fans, Wi-Fi etc in which to have a sit and a cold drink.

Hello from The Walk-up. Thank you for your great review. I am sorry that I have been remiss in not responding to you before this time. Regarding to your difficulty in finding the apartment, I shall be adding a what3words code that will direct you to your parking place. I had not previously found out just how brilliant the What3word system is, and it is an easy app to add to your smartphone. Should you wish to return in the future, you will be most welcome. Kind regards, Richard.

Excellent place to stay in Portree, very kind and thoughtful host, quick response to all questions, we would definitely book again when in Portree. We particularly appreciated the maps and books on the region that can be consulted.

Good walking distance from the centre, extraordinary view from the apartment, in easy distance to all places of interest on Skye.

2nd October 2021:

Just returned from a brilliant holiday at The Walk Up. Lovely accommodation, well designed to give an airy and spacious feel but cosy at the same time. A real home from home with all necessary equipment, a comfy bed, a brilliant shower and a view to die for. Even had books, games, maps, etc. plus milk and a bottle of wine to greet us when we arrived. Richard and Clare are ideal hosts - available if necessary but not imposing on your privacy. Weather was variable but that made for atmospheric photos and plenty of rainbows every day!

Tips:

Easy walk into Portree. Tongadale Hotel in Portree for a beer in the evening. Very friendly.

29th September 2020:

The location is perfect as it is only a short walk into the town were you have pubs, restaurants, shops and co-op convenience store. The bigger supermarket is only a 5 minute drive away. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the walk up and it had everything we needed. The space you have to move about is plenty. The pictures don’t really do it justice to be honest. It is a little gem of a place and Richard & Margaret are a lovely couple. The apartment is very warm and cosy with all the facilities you need. There is no washing machine but the laundrette is in the hostel in the town centre (it was being refurbished when we were there so it was closed) no major issue for us though. There is plenty of maps and books for walks in the apartment but you also have the tourist information centre in the town centre. Due to COVID restrictions they were not open for retail but were giving people maps and any questions they were very helpful. Like everywhere else you needed to book tables in some pubs/restaurants but to be honest as we were out walking most of the day and the co-op has everything you need we cooked in the apartment most days. Skye is a beautiful place and we will definitely be back but will have an overnight stop off on our way as it was a long journey.

Tips:

Old Man of Storr is an amazing walk with outstanding views and also Quairang. You can do a local loop walk in Portree and this map is available from the tourist information centre. Also there is a forest walk you can do from Aros deli/store/cafe/shop which is just outside the town centre on the main road past the garage. There are lots of viewpoints when you are travelling around Skye to take pictures and videos and you will be absolutely astounded by the stunning views. You can also do a boat trip from the town centre which you book down on the harbour MV Stardust which is 25:00 for 2hrs. You will get to see seals, various birds but the main attraction for us was Sea Eagles. There is no guarantee but we were lucky and saw 4.

5th September 2020:

We really enjoyed our stay at the walk up, it was a perfectly placed little apartment a short walk from Portree and perfect for what we wanted it for. We had limited interactions with the hosts as we didn’t have any problems, but when we did speak to them they were helpful and friendly, with lots of good advice. Facilities were excellent and the views of the mountains were unreal. Definitely would recommend and stay again. Thanks very much

Tips:

There are so many fantastic things to do in Portree and the surrounding area. We would recommend the sea-safari boat trip; it’s based from a small window on the green house on the harbour and it was so much fun, although prepare to get wet! It goes much further out than the other boat trips and is amazing for spotting dolphins and whales! Our favourite place to eat was sea breezes but definitely book ahead. Likewise, we did an amazing gin school at Isle of Skye distillery in the village but definitely book ahead! All the shops, restaurants etc were excellent with regards to the Covid restrictions and following guidance, made us feel very safe! Make sure you head up to the fairy glen at uig, definitely a must do! Can’t wait to return next year!

We had a wonderful week at Richard’s apartment. The Walk-Up is a very comfortable, cozy, and well-equipped space: perfect for a couple. The design and decorations are also very nice. Everything worked well and the space was nicely equipped with a small but very functional kitchen. The location is perfect: Portree Harbour is just a short walk down the main road, and you’re very well positioned for exploring the Trotternish Peninsula. We would happily stay here again.

Fantastic stay at Richards apartment, it was very clean, stylish and new. Excellent amenities in the kitchen including oven and hob. Richard gave good information prior to our arrival and the apartment has its own private access. We would stay here again and recommend for others.

Tips:

The top things to do in Skye are located all over the island so a car is definitely necessary to get around as there will be plenty of driving. We were fortunate enough to have excellent weather, Coral beach was stunning to the north and also Sleat beach to the south of the island. We can recommend south Skye kayaking for anyone who would like to get out on the water and have a chance to spot wildlife! Fairy pools and the Storr were also highlights.

Lovely newly decorated apartment not far from the town centre, approx 15-20 minutes walk. Spacious. Easy check in. Helpful host. Super clean.

The walk up is ideally set close to Portree with its pubs, restaurants and shops. Within the apartment was a plethora of useful reading material for local walks and places to explore. The walk up has been a fantastic base to explore Skye with all the home comforts needed after a long days walk/climb. The host Richard was very helpful and I found him knowledgable and welcoming.

Tips:

Fairy pools was magical. The old man of Storr was impressive. Though these were rather busy. Favourite of our stay was Cuillin mountains explored from Glen Brittle then taking the path to the right on the way back down to see the magnificent waterfall.
