What a wonderful hostel. Gavin and Annabelle were very welcoming and helpful. The kitchen and dining areas are both a good size, so there was plenty of room for all. The separate sitting room was also a nice quiet spot.
Tips:A great base for doing the northern part of the Skye Trail.

Very friendly and hospital folk, who made us feel very welcome. Was a pleasure to meet them all and would definitely recommend the place and would have no hesitation booking a stay there again in the future :)
Tips:Useful as an accommodation for lots of walks. We where doing the Skye Trail. Its also close to The Quiraing. We visited the nearby Mackenzie Stores (which Lachy kindly gave us a lift to) they had groceries, an off license and had hot food. We opted for a freshly made Indian curry with rice, naan and pakoras which was all delicious

Very friendly and helpful staff; huge, modern and fully furnished kitchen with a lovely view. Clean bathrooms with real showers, comfortable beds.
Tips:The nearby beach is gorgeous, lots of hikes around too (careful with the weather though, can get very dangerous). Would recommend to have a car - there are buses and a bus stop near the hostel, but it’s so much easier to move around.

We really enjoyed our short stay in the hostel.Such a beautiful setting - and the coastal walk was really worth it, the whole area is so amazing. Even saw an owl hunting near the road, at night.Then the hostel is so well kept, really clean and well maintained, while Gavin and Marybelle were extrememly welcoming and easy to get on with, which really made the place more like a home from home.

Very friendly staff, nice big rooms, toilets and showers are very clean and the kitchen has everything one might need. Athmosphere is very friendly and it’s easy to meet other travellers.
Tips:The hostel is a good stopping point for people walking the Skye trail, and can be reached very easily by bus from Portree (ask the driver to drop you of at the hostel). Be aware that the hostel is quite far from Flodigarry itself, so don’t count on easily going to the shop there. The hostel has a small shop though with basic items like Eggs and pasta.

Amazing location, absolutely stunning view. Kitchen was large and well-equipped, lots of storage for your own food (which is necessary because the closest food store is a bus/drive away, not including the food items the hostel sells). I stayed here for three nights, two camping and one in a dorm. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The facilities are excellent. The bathroom and kitchens are super clean and the kitchen has everything you need to cook. The hostel is really comfy and cosy ans the staff are really friendly and helpful. Would recommend this hostel for anyone exploring Skye.
Tips:There are a bunch of walks you can do from the hostel that take you around some gorgeous parts of Skye. There's a bus stop close to the hostel if you're exploring further afield.

We turned up very early soaked through, and we welcomed without question. We were able to put our things in the large drying room and have a cuppa until the staff were ready for us. Nothing was too much trouble. The kitchen was immaculate and we were able to quiz our hosts on the birds we had seen. we loved the detailed maps on the walls. We loved it here.
Tips:If you want to swim, go to Staffin beach. Bring your binoculars as you can watch the sea eagles swoop about the bay.

Our time at the Dun Flodigarry Hostel was absolutely great. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the facilities, especially the kitchen, were spacious and well equipped, and the location is perfect as a base for Stages 1 & 2 of the Skye trail or a visit to the Quirang. Having originally only booked to stay one night, we cancelled our booking with another hostel and returned to Dun Flodigarry for two more nights later in the week, because it was just so much better. One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in.
Tips:Stages one and two of the Skye Trail were great (ending and beginning at Flodigarry respectively), though stage two is extremely exhausting. The 6km circuit hike around the Quirang, beginning from the car park was brilliant, and much more manageable.

Camped in the green grass of the backyard on our Skye Trail trek, and it is the most lovely hostel!! It is perhaps the cleanest and most well equipped hostel I have ever stayed in...from the amazing kitchen/dining room, to the posted maps and bus schedules, to the immaculate bathrooms and the small shop, everything has been considered. Add a whimsical walk over the fence, through the garden and to the hotel bar next door, and this pretty much ends up being the most idyllic place!

It was a great stay. We were quite a large group, but Brian went out of his way to be sure we were all well cared for, and we knew before we arrived that he would be a point of contact for the whole stay. That was helpful. More shower facilites would be appreciated, and a bit of work to stop the wooden toilet doors banging so loundly at night would have helped everyone sleep. The kitchen was well supplied with shelf storage for our group, plenty pans etc. All very clean. Plenty of provision for phone charging next to beds etc. Thanks !

Great place to stop for a shower and a bed if you’re backpacking the Skye Trail. Rooms are clean and the facilities are nice. One word of caution: Food options are very slim here so come prepared to cook your own meals. The groceries for sale at the hostel are minimal and the hotel restaurant nearby refused service to anyone who wasn’t a hotel guest, so we had slim pickings for food on our night there. Everything else is just lovely.

This place is a hidden gem. I do not have enough words to describe it. The location is breathtaking and the hostel itself seems stolen from either a fairytale, or a story from another century. How lucky these people are to wake up every day and hang their laundry outside, for their guests from all over the world, while gazing at this wonder. Thank you for sharing a piece of marvel with us at such affordable prices. I think this hostel should be better advertised on other websites such as Booking or Hostelworld, if it's in the intentions of the owners to do so without spoiling its beauty, because more people deserve to visit it and bask in its timeless beauty.

Lovely place if you like a quiet spot. We were lucky with the weather and saw wit at its best. Drive there was on a single track with plenty of passing places,but beware of potholes. Very well stocked kitchen for self catering. Our double room was a little small but good sized en-suite and good shower. Enjoyed our stay of two nights.
Tips:Enjoyed the Museum of Highland life, not far from hostel, very well put together and instructive. The other road across to Uig can be busy and a bit hairy , very busy at the car park for Fairy glen and has pay and display. Had a drink in the hotel next door which was very handy,

Use 57C bus for Flodigarry. You will see wonderful views on the road. Besides bus drivers are extremely polite and helpful. Flodigaary itself wonderful. Recommended everyone. Reception opens at 5 pm. My stay at the hostel was extremely pleasant. I hiked the Skye Trail with tent and backpack and spent two nights in the hostel's tent meadow towards the end of my trip. There are trees there and you are woken up in the morning by birdsong. The hostel has spacious showers, a large kitchen, a lounge and a cosy reading room, which can also be used by the campers. The owners are super nice and helpful and there is a small kiosk at the reception with all the relevant things, such as hygiene products, spaghetti and sauces as well as various snacks. I highly recommend the stay and would always return for a stay there.
Tips:There are several small trails in the area, a small forest, lots of cliffs and a rocky beach where you can look for fossils. There is also a restaurant, which I did not visit, and the famous Quairing, an impressive rock formation that marks the entrance to Trotternich Ridge.

Annabel, Gavin, and Bruce were perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and they made our stay all the more memorable. They have a wealth of knowledge for where to go and things to see, and the history of the island. The hostel is situated perfectly for the Quiraing and Old Mano of Storr. As well as dolphin watching in the bay. We can't wait till our next trip.
Tips:Quiraing, Trotternish Ridge, An Corran beach (Dinosaur footprints) Kilt Rock and Mealt falls all a stones throw away from the hostel. I phoned your hostel to say we needed facilities for 2 men and one woman. As you do not have single rooms, you advised me to book a 4 bedded room, which I did. When we arrived (later than I said - I apologize for this) we were shown to a 6 bedded room with someone occupying one of the free beds. Our female friend had expressly said she does not want to share a room with a stranger. She was quite put out.

As per Hostel policy anyone waiting to see if there are any no shows after 9pm are allocated beds if we have any. Which is what happened on this occasion.

I really enjoyed my stay at Dun Flodigarry Hostel. Although it's located in a rahter remote place there's quite good bus connection to Portree (and Uig), so it was possible to explore the island without the car as well. Also, the ocean views from hostel were very beautiful! The hostel was clean, the staff were kind and friendly and there was a big well-equipped kitchen. I stayed in a 6-bed dorm and my roommates were also nice. There were no locks on bedroom doors which wasn't a problem for me but just maybe an interesting information to point out.
Tips:I recommend just exploring the island and hiking/walking/spending time outdoors. For example, I hiked to Quiraing which was great but this place is more easily accessible by car than by bus. Also, there are no local buses on Sundays!

The location is far almost an hour from portree but it is at a perfect location. Near the sea & is really beautiful spot. Hostel is spotless, including shared kitchen & bathroom. One of the cleanest hostel I stayed. On top of it, one of the start of Quiriang hike is just 1km away. The staff is very helpful & informative. We have a great stay.
Tips:Quiriang is a must to see the gorgeous landscape, it should be an easy hike If you are fit. Buy a day bus pass for 2 trip or more. There is a group discount day pass which is a good buy. Get your groceries in portree where there is a bigger co-op with more varieties.

We loved the closeness to the coastal trail and Quaraing trail and being away from the crowds. It was a very peaceful place to stay and we loved our visit.
Tips:I recommend bringing your own food to prepare at the hostel. There is a restaurant next door that we didn't visit and preferred having a picnic on the trail overlooking the sea. Great location, beautiful surroundings, clean facilties and great communal areas to cook and relax. Laundry facilties were excellent. Unfortunately we didn't sleep veey much due to noisy travellers but this is out of the accommodation's control so we did sleep on the sofa one night! The rooms don't lock and there aren't any lockers so keep valuables safe.
Tips:Close enough to go to Portree, old man of storr and local waterfalls if you have a car. We were recommended a great 14km walk from. the hostel to the Quaraing which was a fantastic and tiring day out! The hostel haa a suggestions board.

Wonderful place. One of the best showers I've ever had, incredible views, huge stocked kitchen. The room smelled a bit musty on entry and dorms can get a bit crowded, lots of midges outside when no wind, very steep hill to get in and out, but overall it's a great deal for a hostel, for a fair price, and would be in even better shape were it not for the wonderful manager having to do pretty much everything himself. A fine shelter from the storm where you can relax and get warm.
Tips:Apparently the pub nearby is nothing special. The Quiraing hike is worth it, and the general store in Staffin has a decent selection and free washrooms. Look out for free-range eggs on the road -- they're some of the best you'll ever eat!

One of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. Amazing location and views, a big spacious kitchen with four hobs and lots of work space, and two big communal spaces. Beds were really comfortable and the staff were really friendly and accommodating. I would definitely go back again and recommend it to anyone visiting Skye.
Tips:All the usual you will see online - Quairing, Rubnan Hunish Lookout, Faery Glen, road from Staffin to Uig, and go to Uigshadder community woodland if you get the chance.

The facilities are excellent: a big kitchen with lots of appliances, spacious showers, comfortable beds. The view on the sea is breath-taking, and a lot is accessible from the hostel. Everything is very clean. You can buy essential goods directly in the hostel. The staff (Bryan) was super welcoming, kind and helpful. We wish we could have stayed longer!
Tips:Ask Bryan/colleagues for tips on hikes, places to visit, etc.! A lot of detailed maps are displayed on the walls alongside bus and ferry times as well.

We cycled the Outer Hebrides, parts of the mainland, Mull and Skye for 4 weeks. Our accommodations were 99% hostels. Because Skye is very busy with tourists and all hostels and B&B's were booked out we were forced to go up north to Dun Flodigarry. Well thank you other accommodations for being full otherwise we would not have stayed at this wonderful place for 3 nights. Situated on a picturesque hill overlooking the sea and islands, very clean and cosy kitchen, dining/lounge room, bedroom and facilities. The people who worked there were very friendly and helpful. It was a shame we had to leave.
Tips:No restaurants visited. Wonderful walking and cycling area.

Tips:There are no local restaurants or shops nearby, so make sure you have what you need. The hostel stocks a small amount of basic food items & has towels to rent for a small fee. Super clean & comfortable. Highly recommend.

Wonderful hostel, clean, well run, efficient. My father and I shared a 4 bed room for 3 nights. Staff is wonderful, Brian is so friendly and helpful. The location is stunning, right on the coast with an amazing view and places to hike/walk. Kitchen huge, plenty of room for many people to cook. I hope to go back one day.
Tips:pick up food before you go. There's a small convenience store closeby. Go to Staffin beach at low tide if you can. Beautiful. Wear waterproof hiking boots, the ground to the beach is wet and muddy in places.

You get a fantastic view of the ocean from a hostel! It is clean , cozy, and spacious. It gets lively downstairs at the dining space in the evening. Great if you like socializing, but it's impossible to enjoy quiet time outside of the bed. There's nothing to shield the bedside lamplight so I got complaints from the bed across to turn off the light at 10:( Overall it is not a bad hostel but not the best either.
Tips:Make sure to go shopping at Portree before coming here! Even with a car it's a hassle to get out and there's nowhere nearby for meals except at a hotel next door

Owner Response:Hosteling is all about socialising and meeting new people. Quite time is after 10pm so in a dorm room it would be polite to have your light out after this time as others will be getting up early. There are two cafes in Staffin which is close if you have a car 10mins on Skye this is a very short drive. There are also two lovely local shops in Staffin so also not a hassle to get shopping just take s a bit of planning when your in the tranquility of the countryside.

I chose the hostel for two reasons: the location and it was family friendly. I was not disappointed. The location was astounding (and a good starting point to many walks) and 50% of the guests were family (80% french? !?§). The kitchen was,as promised by Brian who welcomed us on our first evening, really the best : large, fully equiped, really clean, as the rest of the hostel. Our room had a magnificent view on the sea and was spacious and comfortable (on the plus side, the electrical heater, on the minus side, no place to let the towels dry. A detail really.)The hostel was quiet , the staff kind and very helpfull. I would recommend it and would come back as well.
Tips:1 - Do invest in waterproof trousers. REALLY REALLY. 2 - Do not under estimate the midges. 3- Spend at least a week on the isle. At least. 4- So many place to see, so many walks to do : the pineacles, the old man of Storr, Neistpoint (really great place)....

We loved our stay in the flat at Dun Flodigarry Hostel - we had everything we needed, and more. It was a comfortable stay with great wi-fi access, amazing views, friendly staff and the perfect location - nicely tucked away from the world. We'll definitely be back!

This hostel has to be one of, if not the, best hostel I have stayed in. The attention to cleanliness, the quality of the kitchen facilities, local tips and the view . . . ah, it was wonderful. The WiFi was strong for me where I could FaceTime back home, which I appreciated.
Tips:Try to rent a car if you can to see more if the island. Some of my bunk mates were struggling to see and do all they wanted with the bus system. I had met a girl in Oban who actually cut her trip short because she couldn’t see much and felt a lot of down time. The Isle of Skye is amazing, don’t miss out!

Had a very pleasant stay at Dun Flodigarry for 2 nights while on the Skye Trail. It probably had the highest standard of cleanliness I've seen in a hostel. The rooms were perfectly comfortable with good dark curtains, the kitchen was spacious and easily accommodated multiple groups. Service was friendly and very helpful, pointing out how we should modify out hike to make it manageable. All in all top notch.
Tips:We got excellent advice about leaving most of our gear in the hostel and booking another night so we could do the Trotternish Ridge from Storr to Flodigarry (i.e. opposite direction from what we intended). This allowed us to do the arduous trek with minimal weight.

Well equipped kitchen with plenty of storage space. Washing and drying facilities are OK, 2 showers in the men’s, one of which the space is tiny, if you are over 6’ then getting in and out and keeping clothes etc dry is a bit tricky, the other one is fine. Good hot water though.
Tips:Bit tricky to find as the postcode doesn’t drop you in the right place. The google maps pin is much better.

A lovely hostel in a great location, near to hiking trails and amazing nature. My dorm room was clean and comfortable with a good mattress, and there was a big kitchen that was nicely organized. Also I got my laundry done. All around a great hostel. I slept there better than in any other hostel before.
Tips:The Quiraing is very close, in a walking distance. This is a good hostel to choose if you are travelling without a car, as there is a bus service that goes right next to the hostel. The landscape of the area is wonderful. Would recommend!

Tips:If you are walking the Skye trail (as we were) I would recommend catching a bus to the Storr from outside the hostel and walking back to Floddigary. That way you can spend 2 nights in the hostel which is a good place to rest up after a very long day !

Tips:The hostel has no shops or pubs in walking distance except the upmarket hotel next door. Food there was fabulous but cheapest menu was £36 for 3 courses. Having said that, if you can splash out it is memorable. Good shop in Staffin to stock up on provisions on way up (closed Sun). Excellent day time cafe in Staffin as well - Colomba 1400. Whole area is beautiful for walking, cycling, birds etc. Stay a while!

Amazing hostel! Very clean and spacious. The kitchen was wonderful to cook in, though we had other guests take some food from our labelled bin. Wish we were able to lock our rooms or have lockers to store our stuff in to feel a bit more secure, but we didn't have an issue from not being able to do so. Beautiful vies, overall an amazing experience.
Tips:BRING GROCERIES! Only restaurant walkable is expensive so if you are traveling on a budget make sure to bring your own groceries. Coastal walk behind hostel is beautiful and hiking the Quiraing was amazing!!

This was a very pleasant stay and everybody was super nice and helpful. We loved the facilities and the big kitchen-dining area. The place is awesome when you have a tent because you can hang out with people in common areas. Definitely a great value for quality.
Tips:Leave free food for the next backpackers ;) it is a great way to make somebody's day. There are no shops around, so take what you need with you. Coastal trail is just outside of the door and the start of Quiraing trail is in a walking distance. Great place to see the island as you can move around with public transport and still make it on time for dinner.

The Dun Flodigarry Hostel was awesome! Great vibe and the common kitchen/dining room is a beautiful communal space. The beds were comfortable and you really can’t beat the view. Thank you for a great stay, we would highly recommend!
Tips:We arrived to Uig on the ferry from Benbecula in the early afternoon and it worked perfectly to go see the Dunvegan Castle first before trekking north to the hostel. The hostel is a bit out of the way of some of the things to see so I would recommend planning your day with seeing something first before heading up and settling in. The drive is gorgeous and I would recommend leaving time to find and explore the Duntulm castle and it’s hill and cliffs!

We have loved this hostel at the end of the world. The room with a sea view was perfect and we loved how spacious it felt for four. The beds are comfortable, the whole hostel is spotless and the kitchen is really well-equipped. The staff is welcoming, helpful and very efficient! We cannot wait to come back!
Tips:This is a place which feels at the end of the world, so don't forget to bring some food, the kitchen is great and inviting! The views are wonderful, and on the way, you can climb to the Old Man of Storr or admire Kilt Rock and the cliffs!!

My favourite hostel in scotland ! It's completely clean, the beds are very comfortable and the staff are all three of them great poeple to talk with. And they have maps for the walkings you are able to do from the hostel, without it I wouldn't have been able to find my way in the Quirraing. Great place I recommend it !
Tips:The Quirraing and the Old Man Of Storr are classics to do, The Dungevan castle is a beautifull mansion and the fairy glen are amazing too

The dun flodigarry hostel sits on a beautiful piece of coast near the Quiraing. It was incredibly clean and staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable (and a little quirky - which we enjoy). The kitchen/dining area was spacious and hospitable. It was a great place to connect with other travelers, though there is also a lounge area for those who may want a break from social contact.

Awesome staff, very clean and well maintained kitchen. Great views over the ocean. Water temperature varies during one shower form hot to cold and back, but it's all right. Would definitely come back.
Tips:Great base for hikes to the Old man of Storr or Quiraing since it is close by. There are no big shops around so bring groceries form Porter or collect something at the small in hostel shop. Also a good option for an evening refreshment is a beer at the hotel bar next door. Its not cheap, but the beer is good and still affordable.

We had a flat tire on our way to the hostel, and weren't able to check in during regular hours. The hostel was more than accommodating and made sure that no matter what time we arrived we would be sure to have a room. It was much appreciated after a long night by the side of the road!!
Tips:Our stay was very brief, but we spent the next day hiking the Old Man of Storr, walked around Portree for lunch and walked down to the Fairy Pools in the afternoon. All of which we recommend!

I have already recommended you. The beauty of the area, coupled with the friendliness and knowledge of the staff was just great. I have no idea how you keep the place as clean as it is. I also liked the mix of visitors, from all over the place. My one negative is that the bed was pretty soft (I have a terrible back), but it wasn't bad enough to keep me awake. We rented a car from Kyle Taxis in Kyle of Lochalsh, and I think it was much easier than depending on bus, as we were pretty pre-season. Thanks again, and best to Brian, Peggy, and Neal/Niall/Neil
Tips:Skye weavers was closed, so that was a miss, but Brian gave us a nice walk (Healing Pond), and we loved looking for the dino tracks and hiking up the saddle in a big wind. also loved checking out northern end of Quiraing. Wish we had a week, as we all agreed we barely scratched the surface.

Amazing location with a great unforgettable view, nice personnel (Brian has been very welcoming and helpful with tips and a great sense of humour). The hostel was very tidy, our room and common bathroom were clean. In the morning, we were able to make ourselves a coffee free of charge and had the chance to insert a donation in a little box. I'd definitely recommend the place, it s excellent for limited budgets and in bonus, the hostel leaving room/kitchen is a great place to meet other travelers and exchange experience and traveling tips.
Tips:Not a lot of options to go to at least by feet from the hostel to have a drink or lunch/dinner so best to come to the hostel with your food/breaksfast if needed. There's a nice hotel a few minutes walk from the hostel but we were told it's quite overpriced, we did not personnally try it. In addition, bed sheets and blankets are provided by the hostel however don't forget to bring your own towel and bath products with you.

Nice hostel, with a great view, easily accessible by bus, and with walks starting directly from it. Common areas are comfortable and clean, kitchen has everything you can wish for to cook (even moka pot or French press to make coffee!). Staff was super helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Only thing was my mattress in the dorms was really sagging, so it might be a problem if you have serious back issue.

The isle of Skye is a special place to me, symbol of retreat. And Dun Flodigarry fits perfectly with it. Thanks to the team, especially Neil and Bryan, for making it so unique and welcoming.
Tips:If you can do a bit of shopping and manage your food supply Dun Flodigarry is the best accommodation, especially in terms of value for money, in Skye. Hikes to various points on the ridge from Storr to Quiraing are very close and definitely worth it.
