28th May 2019:

The cottage was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The place was clean and well equipped. We did find the hot water/bathing situation a little challenging- some advice in the cottage about running the immersion heater and storage heaters would have been helpful! A wonderful place to truly get away from it all and enjoy the stunning scenery.

12th June 2018:

Fabulous tranquil cottage with bird song in the surrounding conifers. Really peaceful getaway sanctuary. Everything you need at the cottage as long as you're not looking for WiFi signals (which isn't available for much of Skye so you can really chill away from the pressures of modern technology). Effie is really welcoming and has decorated her cottage beautifully.

Tips:

Don't turn off the red cooker switch on the wall if you're not using it as this controls the fridge too! Try the Skye Pie cafe (open till 6pm but the pies run out when it's busy so get there early) and pre-book a table at Columba 1400 for dinner. The Eilshader museum is great for all things geological and it's really close for the Quirang walk. There's a circular loop which takes you up on the tops on the way back - you go over 2 stiles. There are walks books and other suggestions at the cottage.

2nd June 2018:

the cottage was warm and cosy. heaters were available if neccessary. the cooking facilities were satisfactory.

Tips:

the local shop does not open on sundays. so much to see around the island although most of the roads are narrow and there are numerous pot holes. the views from the cottage were breathtaking

9th October 2016:

Marishader Cottage is just delightful; the perfect little home set against the backdrop of the stunning Trotternish Ridge. It's a very special place.

Tips:

Not to be missed close by are Ellishadder Art Cafe and Sky Pies for delicious food. Columba 1400 also serve lovely evening meals with warm, friendly service and raise money for very good work with young people. The remains of the Diatomite works at Lealt are really impressive and worth the short, steep walk down to the shore. The Storr is, of course, world famous and well worth a visit but give yourself time to walk right up to the Old Man or a little beyond it - it's worth the hike! The Quiraing is also spectacular and there are breathtaking views right from the start of the walk at the car park. The Fairy Glen near Uig is a magical place and well worth a visit too.

1st September 2016:

It was our first time in Skye, and the place was great, not too far from the main road in Staffin, but very quiet and with wonderful landscapes. The cottage was cosy and very comfortable for a young couple, full of little nice touches. Great value for money, too, which is not easy to find!

3rd July 2016:

Lovely clean cosy cottage with nice views. Well equipped Picnic bench in garden would have been nice.

Tips:

Quiet rural area. Lovely walking on isle. Fairy pools, glenbrittle forest and beach, old man of storr worth a visit Spectacular scenery all over isle. Disappointed at the lack of dog friendliness in cafe/bars etc. Blaas cafe near the castle worth a visit.

28th September 2015:

A gorgeous little home from home with everything you could wish for during a stay on the Isle of Skye.

Tips:

The Skye Pie Cafe at Glenview just along the road is worth a visit - delicious pies and they do take away as well as sitting in. Ellishader Art Cafe (also just up the road) is a wonderful, friendly cafe with delicious food ... well worth popping in. We like the Granary in Portree for an evening meal ... generous portions of beautifully presented and delicious food. The Fairy Glen (turn left as you drive out of Uig at the Uig Hotel) is a magical little glen ... a very special place. The walk from Lealt out to the Hill of the Red Fox is lovely and if you go to the viewpoint at Lealt Falls (where the car park is) it's worth taking the short but steep path down to the shore to see the remains of the Diatomite works up close. The Storr and the Quiraing are both amazing and never disappoint.

Cottage perfect for us.Had everything we could possibly need.Very friendly locals and the weather was fantastic.Scenery was wonderful. We had a brilliant week. Thank you so much for the use of your lovely cottage.

Tips:

The Kilmartin Restuarant, at the bottom of the road, suited our taste in food which was beautifully cooked and presented and the staff were so friendly. Too many things to see and do to mention. A beautiful island with wonderful views round every corner.
