Mary's Thatched Cottages - Tigh Phadraig

Mary's Cottages are regarded as one of the top honeymoon locations. The cottages combine the traditional charm of 'black house' dwelling with modern comforts to ensure a wonderful stay on the Isle of Skye. Curtained box beds and cast iron stoves nestle beneath the cottages' thatched roofs and are complimented by modern additions such as fitted kitchens and under-floor heating. Our cottage can sleep up to 4 with one cosy (king sized) boxed bed and two single beds in the gallery. The cottage is situated in the secluded small fishing village of Elgol. Down at the shore there is a small harbour where local fishing boats land their catches of lobster and langoustine among others. Boat trips run from the jetty into Loch Coruisk, in the heart of the Cuillins and there is extensive scope for a variety of outdoor pursuits. Type 2 Electric Vehicle charger installed for guest use.

5th May 2019:

Tips:

Boat trips from Elgol are really good. Great walk from the village to Loch Coruisk - about three/four hours and boat back (via the Bad Step). Little shop in the village for milk, butter, rolls etc.

25th April 2019:

Very clean and well equipped cottage. The bread, milk, and eggs were a welcome addition after a long drive. We had a lovely stay and hope to return again in the future.

Tips:

Take a boat trip to Loch Coruisk to admire the surrounding Cuillin mountains. Elgol pier is beautiful on a sunny day.

4th April 2019:

Beautiful cottage. Very special place with so much character. The cottage had everything we could have needed and very cosy and warm with amazing underfloor heating. The owner of the cottage, Derek, was so helpful and gave lots of information on staying in Elgol and more. Derek went over and above to make sure our stay there was as comfortable as possible. Would highly recommend this special cottage in a beautiful location. Thank you.

Tips:

We visited the fairy pools and it took approx an hours drive taking in all the beautiful landscape along the way. This was a special place and our two young sons (8 and 4) loved it. We did get soaked though and looked for somewhere cosy to eat. We went into Carbost and found ‘The Old Inn’ which was perfect with delicious soup and bread! We only had two and a half days to explore with quite extreme weather. We walked up to old man of Storr which was incredible and Dunvegan Castle with short seal trip which was lovely and boys loved it. We would have loved to take the boat into to Loch Coruisk from Elgol, however time and weather didn’t allow! Soo much to see and do. The drive up and into Elgol and the cottages was beautiful.
