22nd July 2020:

Couldn't fault any part of the booking process or anything about the cottage. It is in a stunning location and had everything we needed. Helen, thank you so much for everything you did to make us feel welcome (including the much-appreciated hamper of goodies)! We were certainly reassured with the efforts made to make the cottage covid-safe. A wonderful stay and we hope to come back someday soon!

Tips:

Local restaurants and pubs were not open when we were staying but the Stein Inn is certainly a place we would go to given the chance in future! The bakery in Dunvegan has wonderful bread and cakes and we also bought free range eggs and marmalade from the end house (honesty box) just along the road in Geary. We had many fantastic walks - the cliffs to the right when looking from the cottage and the beach below and around the point to the right where we saw seals and dolphins feeding! Another fantastic cliff-top walk was from Ramasaig near Neist Point up to the Hoe and north along the cliffs. Stunning views and amazing sea eagle encounters! Neist Point also well worth visiting - we saw Great Skuas stealing fish from gulls! The Macleod tables provided more wonderful views and a golden eagle soaring high above. Another great peninsula walk was from Greshornish Hotel out along the west coast to the point and back along the east coast - more sea eagle sightings here too! That said, it was wonderful just to sit in the cottage or on the bench outside with a morning coffee in the sunshine gazing across Loch Snizort - a view that always entertains and changes all the time in different light. Absolutely beautiful.

9th August 2019:

Great cottage if you want to be away from it all and are happy on single track roads. Fantastic views and super wildlife including dolphins and beautiful sunsets with fairly easy walks to a black sandy beach (with seals) and to nerby Stein. Very well equipped with everything we needed for a week's stay and the log burner made for cosy evenings. Highly recommended.

Tips:

Stock up on supplies on the way there as there are few (if any) nearby local food shops between the cottage and Dunvegan. Take the walk to the beach and take your camera. Visit the coral beach near Dunvegan castle for a swim and the tea yurt and exhibition at Skye Skyns near Stein (a nice walk from the cottage). Visit Dunvegan bakery and pop into Portree for supplies and restaurants.

28th October 2018:

We arrived at the cottage early evening after a very long journey and were able to enter easily with the clear instructions Helen sent. The cottage was warm and cosy and there were some essentials provided (long life milk, teas and coffee, preserves and part bake rolls) so had we not come prepared we would have been comfortable until we could get to a shop. I thought it was fantastic that such things as dishwasher tabs and washing up liquid was provided as these are easily forgotten when packing. The cottage was lovely and clean and welcoming and the beds were so comfortable, we slept superbly all week! The views are incredible from the house and we loved looking through the binoculars provided to see what was happening across the bay.

Tips:

I grew up in this cottage so I had particular things I wanted to see, which may not be on all visitors lists. We walked to Score Bay (turn right out of the house and then left on forestry commission path) and also to Stein Bay (right on forestry commission path). We would highly recommend the eagle spotting boat trip (stardust) from Portree, Coral Beach outside of Dunvegan and Talisker of course (you cannot take the tour of the distillery with children under 8 due to the air quality in there). Just up the hill from Talisker is the oyster shed which is definitely worth a visit if seafood is your thing! We took a trip to Uig, it’s a very small village but there is a local brewery there which is not to be missed and also Uig Pottery which is where most of my spending money went.

The cottage is in a superb location. It was easy to find and had everything we needed, including a beautiful kitchen and the best shower ever! We were able to relax completely when not busy out walking, keeping our eye on passing wildlife at the same time. Helen's emails were friendly!

Tips:

A fabulous spot for wildlife lovers and those who like a remote spot. Great walks to Waternish Point, Fairy Pools in Glen Brittle, Coral Beaches and much much more!

19th August 2012:

It was a splendid week! Even beyond our expectations. A few minor comments/tips: It was not clear to us that we had to put the garbage bins on the street. I think they were not emptied for that reason, sorry! There was no corkscrew in the cottage. Small problem as most bottles have screw corks now. There was no supply of garbage bags, only the one that was already there. The cold water tap in the bathroom is leaking a little. Sometimes after you flush the toilet, the water pipes start making strange loud pulsating noises. It stops after flushing again.

Tips:

We put that in the visitor book :-)
