2nd October 2018:

We love staying at Henderson House, it is a 'home from home'.

Tips:

Loads to see and do in the Waternish area and on Skye. The joy is exploring and finding new things each time and going back to your favourites when you return. Definitely plan ahead and book dinner at Lochbay restaurant. Turn up early (before 6pm) at the Stein Inn to get a nice table and try the local Langoustine - you won't want them from anywhere else!

Henderson House is a delightful cottage in a stunning location. When we arrived, it was spotlessly clean and very homely.

Tips:

Loch Bay Restaurant (next door). is excellent, but book early, however, we were not impressed with The Three Chimneys. Had a nice meal at the Stein Inn which was reasonably priced.

25th July 2018:

We loved our stay at Henderson House. The location is stunning, although it’s a very busy wee place. The cottage was very comfortable and homely. It was full of character with all the amenities you could wish for, unless you prefer a bath to a shower. The owner was extremely helpful and polite and we would highly recommend Henderson House.

Tips:

The whole family really enjoyed the boat trip provided by Gordon at Divers Eye. It leaves from the jetty right outside the cottage and it was very informative. Gordon has a great knowledge of the area and was great with the kids too. The Loch Bay restaurant next door was fantastic, if s little pricy, but the food was superb. The picturesque Stein Inn was lovely, but we only went in once as the elderly gentleman behind the bar was extremely unfriendly, especially towards our kids, who were impeccably behaved. The rest of the staff were nice and it’s ok for pub grub, with s good selection of drinks. Skyeskins, just up the road is worth a visit too, with a great selection of sheepskin goods, a friendly and interesting tour and a yurt to enjoy a good cup of coffee.

We had such a lovely stay in Stein and at Henderson House as our base. It had all the amenities we needed, and being steps from the water and having a private little garden facing it was heaven. The kitchen was a gathering spot, and we loved making coffee and a simple breakfast in the morning. The bathroom was very clean and modern as well, and it was a beautiful mix of character and charm, with modern conveniences. Thank you for being part of a truly memorable experience.

Henderson House is a real gem. It is ideally located and is one of the most comfortable and best equipped cottages we have ever stayed in. Booking etc was really straightforward and it is clear that Alison and David take great pride and care in making this home from home available to visitors.

Tips:

The Yurt at Skye Skins is perfect for morning coffee and the cakes are delicious. Coral Beach is also an absolute must-particularly on a glorious day.

Great location on the water in a tiny community. Very quiet which very rare on Skye. Lovely old cottage well converted. Everything needed was there including electric blankets. Only downside was because it is an old cottage the windows are small and it is dark inside.but step outside for a stunning view.

Tips:

Michelin starred fish restaurant next door. Only 18 covers do small and intimate and very good. Stein Inn just along the road claims to be the oldest zinnias on Skye. Overcrowded, so so pub food and unfriendly bar staff.

Just back from a phenomenal stay at Henderson House. From start to finish we felt right at home: comfortable accommodations, great beds (really appreciated the electric blankets for winter), we enjoyed evenings by the fire, board games, and cooking in the well equipped kitchen. Everything we needed was there. Plenty of space for our family. Allison and David were lovely hosts. Thank you so much.

Tips:

Waternish was absolutely gorgeous. Location was perfect, and we enjoyed walking down the road to grab meals out at the Stein Inn. A great base to enjoy exploring Skye. Incredible stars, and lovely sunsets. Just perfect.

We had a wonderful stay at Henderson House, We didn’t want to leave. The house is beautiful, clean and has lots of modern facilities without losing the quaint cottagy feel. The log fire created a really cosy atmosphere and having te electric blankets made the house feel really cosy and inviting after being out in the lovely crisp island air. One of the absolute best things about Henderson house is the location, the stein inn on your doorstep was a great place to have a lovely family meal in front of the fire. With the lochbay restaurant on your doorstep. Top that all off with a lovely front garden facing on to the see it was bliss. We will definitely be back again and have already enquiries about our next trip.

Tips:

We bought logs and kindling at the co-op in Portree we used a lot as we loved having the fire on. Things we did which we would recommend: - going to the stein inn. Great atmosphere and great food - coral beach, we could have been on a tropical island beach - the fairy pools. Stunning If you are going in Feb like us. I’d recommend a 4x4.

Great location and lovely, cosy cottage with great view to wake up to! Nice garden as well, where we sat in the evening with a chilled glass of wine , and it also had a few resident rabbits hopping around! Our son and his girlfriend (who was here from Australia ) also thought the cottage was perfect!

Tips:

Enjoyed the Stein Inn a few doors up and had a lovely meal in the Lochbay which was next door!! Plenty of stunning locations and walks to suit different grades. Some difficulties experienced accessing though due to single track roads and traffic congestion at parking areas!

Tips:

We were lucky enough to eat at both the Three Chimneys and Lochbay Seafood restaurants by booking a month ahead. Very nice location by the coast. Right beside the loch bay restaurant and stein inn. Even at night on clear skies you can see the moon over the sea. The house itself was very comfortable, warm and maintained to a high standard. Country style interior was beautiful with a working fireplace. Perfect if you want that getaway feeling of being part of a small remote village (coming from Leeds). The host checked in on us to make sure we arrived safely which was very welcoming. Other niceties include maps and walking guides provided, books about skye/scotland to read, fully equipped kitchen, garden outside leading up to the sea line.

Tips:

Waternish point is nearby. It is a lovely walk. To portree is about 30 minutes away Skye skins 2 minutes away have a free guided tour on what they do (sheepskins) On rainy days best to visit indoor places. On clear days make sure to catch the sunrise/sunset at any of the dramatic places in skye (storr/fairy pools/neist point/quirang... etc)

Tips:

The Lochbay restuarant next door was top notch. Five star for both staff, ambiance and food to die for. Janns cakes in Dunvegan another must. We met the new chef for the Old School House in Dunvegan and although we did not manage to eat there I am sure it will be a great success. The Stein inn is great for drinks and local langoustines. Really well appointed cottage, in a great location and made for a very enjoyable break. Good size for a family of four, enjoyed sitting in the lounge in the evening reading and listening to music after being out and about walking sightseeing during the day. Only we niggle was unlocking the main front door form the inside in the morning, took several attempts usually, best not to force and just take out key and try again. Would like to visit again in Winter and try the log fire!

Tips:

Do go along to Trumpan for the views and walk out towards Waternish Point. Amazing views over The Minch and to Dunvegan/Glendale direction. Neist point walk is fantastic too and stop for coffee/bit to eat in the roadside cafe in Glendale next to the Church! Stein Inn well worth popping along to for a drink or something to eat. Loch Bay restaurant could not be handier and superb food. Be sure to visit the fish shop in Portree (Just Hooked) for some really fresh fish to cook yourself.

A notice on the gate as other properties have would minimise the inconvenience of people parking in such a way that it is not possible to access the garden. This can be annoying.

Tips:

Loch Bay and the Three Chimneys were both excellent although the menu at Loch Bay was a bit restrictive with only minor changes on our three visits. The Stein Inn was poor and the staff unwelcoming. A very cosy, comfortable and clean cottage - couldn't ask for more. Oh, and the garden down to the loch is glorious when the weather's kind. We have had two wonderful stays so far. Tip: Hiring a car from Fortwilliam car hire is much cheaper than hiring on Skye.

Tips:

Great pub a few doors down and a fabulous restaurant next door - a bit pricey with their set menus but such a cheffy experience isn't to be missed. SkyeDive boat trip in Stein with Gordon - we did two in a week. SkyeGhillie for wild walking. Dunvegan and the glorious Coral Beach. Walk (strenuous as steep hills) to Neist Point. Fairy Pools near Carbost - we had a dip - it warms up once you're in. Honest! Buying local meat & fish from the Co-op in Portree and cooking in the cottage kitchen - which we did most nights.

Superb location with stunning panoramic views. We found the cottage very cosy with a lovely homely feel making settling in very easy. All facilities were excellent within the cottage and the original character of the house being a fisherman's cottage were retained. One of the key features was the open fire which we loved along with the stunning views over Loch Bay.

Tips:

However, it also has a lovely new bathroom with walk in shower, and a modern kitchen diner with all the appliances and utensils you could possibly need. A real home from home. The owners are welcoming, friendly and helpful.

Tips:

The Lochbay Seafood Restaurant (next door!) is our favourite, the food is first class. At the other end of the street is the Stein Inn, also serving good food. 28th June 2015:

We found the cottage well equipped and very clean. The location was superb both in terms of its views and location for visiting other parts of Skye.

Tips:

Whilst the Stein Inn is obviously very close we found the staff unfriendly. The best pub by far we found was the New Inn in Carbost, great food, live music and pleasant staff. our meal in the Lockbay restaurant was superb and the best food of our holiday.

29th September 2014:

Really enjoyed our stay at Henderson House, if we were to return to Waternish we would certainly stay here again. Beautiful location

Tips:

Make sure you book into the Lochbay Seafood Restaurant next door the food is excellent. The Stein Inn has a great location being only a matter of yards from the cottage, however it gets very busy during peak season and I'm afraid the service is not great!!

27th July 2014:

For us it was an ideal location and holiday house. Very comfortable and well equipped. An apron and oven gloves would be useful additions to the kitchen equipment.
