21st September 2019:

The host was absolutely wonderful, his hospitality, his readiness to help us with anything, be it sightseeing tips or traffic/road work issues, and his humour made the stay as enjoyable as anyone could wish for. Some might find the location a little in the "nowhere", but we loved the quietness of it, because it meant less tourists. And there were still great food options around and great views to be experienced.

Tips:

Talisker distillery, Neist point (Skye's westernmost point), island life museum, Dunvegan Castle and gardens, JoAnn's cafe (near Dunvegan castle, a large variety of organic cakes and chocolates)

25-26 July 2018 Tigh na Bruach. Yes you have come right. With these welcoming words we came to this hidden gem in the middle of the island of Skye. A family-run accommodation with simple but very good standard and a very good breakfast. The ovners were very friendly. Nearby are two good restaurants / pubs and not least Talisker, the distillery. From here it is very easy to make excursions to all the tourist destinations of the island.

Malcolm and Jean are warm and welcoming hosts. They let you feel right at home. We've had long and wonderful talks. They also gave us a lot of good recommendations about the area.

Tips:

There are two inns in the neighbourhood. The Old Inn, which is a good place for food and a drink. It is next to a hostel which sets the atmosphere. And there is Munros Bar (Taigh Ailean Hotel). We loved this place. There is a pool bar and lots of other games to play. Staff is very friendly. And the food is good, but be prepared for a full portion. Of course you can visit the Talisker Distillery. Make a reservation for a tour upfront. You can also do this online. There are two companies that offer boat trips. We couldn't do that due to time unfortunately, but we would have loved to. The Fairy Pools are close by. It is a very easy walk to the pools, but it is not as impressive as the other hikes we did on the Isle of Skye.

23rd July 2017:

Our hosts were informative and interesting people to chat with each day as we set off, as we returned, or simply as we relaxed.

Tips:

Being in the Carbost area is central to hiking or driving both north and south Skye. Stop at a coop and get food for your day. There are LOTS of tourists on Skye when you consider the meager year-round numbers. Beware bus groups. Skye has dramatic walks but the driving loop along the peninsulas allows for dramatic views if you must suffer the people and midgies. Please be one who pulls over at proper points as marked, else you may find your tire cut on rocks or bogged down in the mud.

Tigh na Bruach is a really nice house where you have the feeling to be at home, with the independence and privacy of a B&B. The room is very nice with its private bathroom: everything is clean and tidy. In the front of the house you have the opportunity to park your car near to you. Malcom and his family are really nice people, friendly, helpful and of pleasent conversation. Both mornings of our staying there, Malcom prepared to us a very tasty and plantiful Scottish breakfast.

Tips:

The house remain on a little hill upon Carbost, that is a nice little town with a pub where you can have your lunch and dinner listening to some pretty good live music(be careful kitchen close at 9pm!). In Carbost you also will find the Talisker distillery that is visitable and The Oyster Shed where you can buy and eat very tasteful seafood with a very pleasent view of the Loch. So if you are planning to go visit Skye i recommand Carbost as base and Tigh na Bruach is the perfect place to stay. I hope to could return as soon as possible and i will defenetly choose it again!

12th June 2016:

Both the accomodation and hosts were excellent, we stayed in the family room which was more than big enough for three bikers and all their gear. Malcolm even got up earlier to cook us breakfast on our leaving day as we had a long way to go and wanted an early start. Thanks to both hosts and we hope to see you again soon.

Tips:

Talisker distillery less than a five minute walk. Fairy pools a fifteen minute drive. Pub with great food a 10 minute walk, even has live bands playing, but get there early as they gat busy for such a small pub. As you are on Skye there are many more thing to see and do, you can even use it as a base to stay and drive out to see hundreds of attractions from dolphin tours to waterfalls in less than an hours drive or ride.

28th March 2016:

My girlfriend and I stayed at Malcolm and Jean's B&B over the Easter weekend and we couldn't fault them or their beautiful home. They were warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Their was plenty to choose from for breakfast and it was all delicious and made to order. Malcolm and Jean were very knowledgable about the isle and gave us plenty of suggestions, including a couple of hidden gems. If you are looking a for quaint B&B to rest your head and want a beautiful view to wake up to then look no further. We will be back.

Tips:

A few things we recommend is going to the fairy pools, coral beach and driving around the Trotternish coast. Most of all we encouraging you to go to the Old Inn to enjoy some great Scottish food, drink and hospitality and if you are lucky....so local music too.
